Liked the sound, but it didn't blow me away (like Gladiator did back then for instance and still does today from time to time). Didn't like the UI at all, though... Again I think Gladiator's interface is way better imho, even after all these years. Think I'll pass Icarus for now. Maybe I'll grab it during the next BOGOF sale...

Hmmm, over here it is the other way around. Although gladiator is a great tool, i really dislike the ui. Sooo small....Sim.Sky wrote:Liked the sound, but it didn't blow me away (like Gladiator did back then for instance and still does today from time to time). Didn't like the UI at all, though... And this Icarus is not the best ui, i agree, and a bit of a tab-fest. But the overview page is much better imho. I think the best (in terms of functionality) ui from t2, is saurus, imho. Nice and simple lay out and big enough for 1080p screens (the most common these days, i believe).

Does anyone here notice aliasing when running at 44.1khz? Seems to trail off when increasing the sample rate to 88 or 96khz. Wondering if anyone else here can confirm. Just checking with a simple saw or square waveform. IDK if someone could help verify the results with something like SPAN, not sure if I'm looking at things the right way

I saw it happening as well. Not too much though.KingTuck wrote:Does anyone here notice aliasing when running at 44.1khz? Seems to trail off when increasing the sample rate to 88 or 96khz. my 2 cents on icarus
i got the email from tone 2 yesterday and wasn't too amazed with videos i had seen.... maybe because they're 30 sec long with wub wubs and things like that... not my beach...
i downloaded the demo, because... we demo everything
and at 1st glimpe didnt seem like a major upgrade to me that is...........until i started exploring the atmo and pad presets.... this synth sounds warm and so much movement! you don't see it at 1st sight but once you set up your FX chain and sends i was VERY PLEASENTLY SURprised! It's detailed, clean, rich at least to my ears... you'll see the real diference after you set up an FX chain on icarus
im not even that good at mixing and stuff
try comparing any of your soft synths with this method... it's night and day ... there's some witchcraft under icarus hood imo.... its hard to make it sound BAD!
i dont know, could be me, my process but i dont have other softsynth that sound like this... i'm not telling wich others or even the one i had from Tone2, its subjective and don't want to start a discussion
sometimes i get unexpected behaviours but if you can tweak your patch enough it those glitches come out in a nice way, at least to my ears and the kind of music i make usually.
I'll leave the link for a track i made into the night playing with icarus. All sounds except the kick that starts the track are from Icarus.

what i dont like so much/would like to see in updates:
1 - i'd love 1 more page of mod matrix... in one of the patches i maxed out the matrix and it wasn't finished ^^
2 - at least one or 2 (real) MSEG's.. would really make this synth shine
... by real i mean more long and with more detail... i'm not sure how hard will be for tone 2 to create a zoom... never seen it in their synths so maybe a menu that opens a big window could be an option?

Awesome track - way better than a lot of the demos (gotta sell the wub-wub). If I could do that in a night...
Please tell me you started your sound design by tweaking presets and not from scratch. Else I quit.

Ditto, all counts! Nicely done, tatsy.JoeCat wrote:Awesome track - way better than a lot of the demos (gotta sell the wub-wub). If I could do that in a night...
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

for this track yes, i started with presets and tweaked them, i made some i was liking when i had the demo but all that non save thing and buzz sound got me pissed/traumatized i guess
and just wanted to get the flow going as soon as i got it
but from those demo experiences it's really simple to me to sound desing in Icarus (i've had a tone 2 synth before), some synths touch and connect with you... to others don't.... so i can see myself sound designing a LOT with icarus...
**oh btw i havent explored that much yet but i feel at least some of the filters could have a bit more low end.... could be the waveforms i'm using too so i'll do some more testing**

Since we're trying to be informative, here's 3 presets i've made with the demo... to bad i lost them because i was liking the 3th one
anyway this is what convinced me to get icarus, it has no external FX... sounded more interesting with them

**and by low end on filters i think i mean (i don't have much technical knowlege) but i feel the resonance when you cut on LP filters and start bringing resonance up i feel the resonance frequency could close down a bit more **edit**(while exponentially increasing the slope cut of the really lows under that so it doesn't get over muddy) .... to give you that bass thump kind of thing... at least on one of the filters types would be nice**
**edit 2** oscilators phase as matrixx destination would be nice too! but there's so much movement in this synth already ... i'm just being picky i guess

What's the demo like, I won't bother if it has frequent noises or something as they just get in the way?

30 mins, no saving presets. Then you get Da Noise of Death.
And it actually crashes my Cubase Artist when that noise appears... after those 30 mins, you have to reload the plugin. It's ok i think.

30 mins before noise sounds reasonable.
