V-Machine

They actually have good support, very helpful. But it's true that they should've taken the longer route - get the VFX software fully operational with all needed functions BEFORE the release of the product (instead of patching it up along the way adding new functions), as well as negotiating with major VST vendors (NI, Rob Papen, IK, FXpansion, Toontrack, Korg, Steinberg, etc.) in helping them produce wizard files and C&R activation solutions, INSTEAD of putting it on buyer's back.
Imagine if it went that way - you bought your V-Machine, KNOWING that you will be able to run all those popular VSTs without any hassle (polyphony is, of course, a different question). That would've been way better route, and I suppose it would attract more customers and more people would be happy, because not everyone wants to trouble themselves into making wizard files, nor everyone has the necessary knowledge. People just want to plug and play, and not only the given plugins that are already loaded on V-M, but their own preferences.

I wonder how the V-Rack and V-Pedal will perform. If the VFX software is also the way to copy sounds...
Now I'm using my laptop and Brainspawn Forte but if the upcoming musebox is powerful enough I'm sure I will take a look at it.I will never make the same mistake again buying something where the software was still alpha (not even beta) when it was released. I believe the VXF software was also promised for linux. Maybe the support is good and I'm sure they are doing their best, if you release a product that is tested and tested and tested with stable working software you would hardly need support.

Me neither, only problem is i can't really blame myself. How was i to know that SM Pro would offer me an alpha version of their software? They never communicated that the software would be alpha, let alone hardly tested. They used the word beta when they released the mac-version. Before that they used the term "changes". Yeah right, "bug fixes" would be more appropriate. On april 1 V-rack will be released. Release date on fool's day; i can see the satire in that. Offers still goes btw; €400,- for a hardly used v-machine.I will never make the same mistake again buying something where the software was still alpha (not even beta) when it was released.

Can anyone tell me if the V-machine always loads Sampletank and ALL its instruments or just the instruments that are used by a certain preset? Last night I played a Sampletank Rhodes and found that memory-usage was 52%. It seems to me that all instruments are being loaded even if they aren't used by the active preset.

Hi...I have a pre- Intel chip G5 MAC..Anyone know if running Virtual PC (runs Windows on a MAC) will work for running VFx program to load the V-machine?..The BETA MAC version of VFX only works on Intel chip MACS, or is there something magic about Intel chips that Vfx has to see????...Thanks

VFX is built around WINE, which is an open source windows runtime environment (providing the necessary windows libraries); so it's designed to run windows apps in foreign systems like osx or linux; windows apps (like the windows vsts and vstis that vfx supports) need an intel processor to run

I don't know what Samplelord does or why, but if you open the chunk file (double-click and open with Notepad) from the preset, you'll see that it loads some previous used soundfonts on channels that you don't want to use.janka wrote:Can anyone tell me if the V-machine always loads Sampletank and ALL its instruments or just the instruments that are used by a certain preset? Battery uses challenge-response activation thing, I think, so you'll probably gonna have to wait some more for that.

Thanks for the reply Peter...."Virtual PC" software runs ( or mimics?) Windows OS on a MAC....Is this not enough?..Does the computer have to have an Intel processor to run VFX?...I don't quite understand the subtlety of this. I jumped in and bought Virtual PC before trying , so I'm very keen to see if it is possible!...Thanks againPeter999 wrote:VFX is built around WINE, which is an open source windows runtime environment (providing the necessary windows libraries); so it's designed to run windows apps in foreign systems like osx or linux; windows apps (like the windows vsts and vstis that vfx supports) need an intel processor to run

the trick is that it doesn't just mimic windows, it provides the original libraries for native execution of windows apps; windows applications are written for intel processors (they refer to its command structure), so they need an intel processor to run; old ppc apps also didn't automatically run on intel macs, they had to be re-written too (carbonized)
PPC macs anyway won't be supported too long anymore in the future; intel macs are way faster and as stable (based on my own experience) - apple has made a very wise decision imho, with the intels on board they're back as the fastest personal computers on the planet

Has VFXAU disappeared from this forum? Just wondering.... his last post was March 22.
A while ago there were rumours that around the Frankfurt MusikMesse a V-Machine software update and a hardware upgrade would possibly be introduced. Any news here?

Probably staying clear of the forum until the heat from the vrack cools down... it has a dual core processor... kind of feel like I got screwed. I notice some retailers have dropped the price on the v machine here in the us...beta tester and robbed as well not cool. On a lighter note samplelord has released 2 Vmachine specific vsts. One is free and the full version of samplelord is heavily discounted very cool.
You make it if you try

The Vrack has an ethernet connection so registering plug ins should be possible with VNC and it has digital out. Specs looks much better.
I wonder what the price will be.
