I know you have enough on your plate right now Andy but ... is there any chance for the Drop (or the Glue) to work in audiosuite? Ever? Or is all the Pro Tools stuff handled by a wrapper that doesn't allow it?

Bit of a bug report - for some reason Ableton was running at 88.2, I opened a project which had a bunch of instances of The Drop, changed project sample rate back to 44.1 and Ableton crashed... re-opening Ableton, its crash reporter thingie pointed the finger at The Drop as the cause of the crash.
Definitely repeatable as well... The Drop 0.9.14, Live 9.0.4 64bit, OS X 10.8.4

There is no audiosuite version of The Glue or The Drop, and Avid / Digidesign never allowed offline rendering of RTAS plugins for whatever reason, you'll have to ask them about it. I will be releasing the AAX Native version as a free upgrade that supports offline processing.toast wrote:I know you have enough on your plate right now Andy but ... is there any chance for the Drop (or the Glue) to work in audiosuite? News: I've found an important bug in the oversampling engine that is the most likely cause of intermittent crashes and silence that people have been experiencing, I hope this is the most stable version of The Drop yet and I recommend everyone update to this version. Also I've sorted out a very low cpu way to "warm up" the filters so there are no horrible clicks when switching circuits any more.

- New: filters are now "warmed up" to prevent clicks when switching circuits
- Fixed: bug in oversampling that could cause silence or crashes under certain conditions

Thought the clicks was something exclusive to my system (should have logged it), thank you for the updateandy_cytomic wrote: Also I've sorted out a very low cpu way to "warm up" the filters so there are no horrible clicks when switching circuits any more.

Addum :
Dropx64 Cascade SH working and behaving itself as exepected in Cubase 7.0.5x64/Win8x64. Mate this is progressing into a great plugin, much improved CPU usage since release which is great news.
Glue : Thanks for the Glue update inc. dropdown preset menu.

That's great to hear about AAX. I look forward to it.andy_cytomic wrote:There is no audiosuite version of The Glue or The Drop, and Avid / Digidesign never allowed offline rendering of RTAS plugins for whatever reason, you'll have to ask them about it. I never really understood why some of 3rd party developers support audiosuite and some don't. I always assumed it had to do with tools like JUCE or it's equivalent not supporting it but that was just a wild guess. Hopefully Avid has made it a little more straight forward with PT11 but I'm in no real hurry to upgrade.

Audiosuite is a plugin standard that was created before computers were powerful enough to do realtime DSP tasks, so it was offline only. Later on Digi made a new plugin standard called "Real-Time Audio Suite" or RTAS, but they are not the same so supporting both takes more development resources and support time etc, so most third party developers just support RTAS since it's more useful.toast wrote: That's great to hear about AAX. I understand the history but audiosuite was not superseded by RTAS they exist in parallel. I actually use audiosute plugins more frequently than RTAS. For my day job (sound editing for films) I use audiosuite plugins almost exclusively. Hopefully Avid has made this less of confusing (I know that is an oxymoron) with PT11/AAX but we'll see...andy_cytomic wrote:Audiosuite is a plugin standard that was created before computers were powerful enough to do realtime DSP tasks, so it was offline only. I was asking you because I wanted to process some files with the Drop, couldn't and so used something else. I didn't buy the Drop or the Glue for this functionality so I'm not complaining, you're hardly the only one who doesn't support it, but just pointing out it is hardly legacy functionality.

I didn't mean to imply that one format superseded the other, so sorry if that came accross in my post. I just pointed out why audiosuite is not supported by everyone, and that is because RTAS is the more important plugin format for most people and taking on new plugin formats increases support load and development time so is not a move taken lightly as it impacts lots of areas.toast wrote:I understand the history but audiosuite was not superseded by RTAS they exist in parallel. The Glue will never be released as an audiosuite plugin, but AAX does support offline rendering so you will be in the clear soon. If you would like a workaround for now there are many ways to batch process using The Glue (edit: and The Drop) via different audio editors / DAWs including Audition, Reaper, Audacity, Wavelab and loads more, that way you can also add AU / VST plugins to your audio processing arsenal.
