ah, hell - I'm going to end up adding a record buffer to MKey, aren't I. :(
Someone shot the food. Remember: don't shoot food!

Is that why I can't get it to record? If I set up Mkey the same way I set up Trollo for recording (using hubi's loopback as an earlier poster suggested) It will usually play one note and then go silent. Then Trollo won't work anymore either and I have to exit the edit and re-enter and set upgain to get things working again.
Maybe I should post this on the other thread.

I don't think you will now... :D

I hope he still does. It's best to keep things simple and in this case fewer links in the chain is always better. An extra track, PLUS extra routing is a lot especially if you want to move your keyboard to another VSTi.
Good work Valley and thanks ModulR for a workable solution. :)

I'm a very newby. Though I know I've only just begun to scratch the surface, I find Traktion very easy to use when tracking & editing my friends' and my live instruments & vocals. Get ready for lots of stupid questions as I begin to dive a little deeper.

How do!

I can't figure out how to start recording a clip in the middle of a track, e.g. at time 0:45 instead of time zero.

I tried setting the cursor, positioning a new clip, setting the "in" line, turning on "punch", but when I start recording (either midi or audio), the material goes into a new clip starting at time zero.

Otherwise I'm getting the hang of it -- very cool :)

You don't need to set the cursor, you need to set both markers. In a default edit, both markers are at position 0. The marker closest to the start of the track is the 'in' marker, so the chances are that you have only dragged one marker, and the other is still at position 0.

thanks Rich -- I bet that was exactly it -- but I'm still getting mixed results

first few tries after setting both 'in' and 'out', the cursor nicely jumped to the 'in' marker and started recording from there

then after moving the two markers, the cursor would jump two bars to the left of the 'in' marker and start to record from there (no count-in was set)

and after another move of the markers, the cursor would jump to the beginning of the track rather than to the 'in' marker

using the 'punch' button works, i.e. recording does not start until the cursor crosses the 'in' marker, but then I have to wait for the cursor to get there

I had another look at the Tracktion Quickstart Guide:
To begin recording, simply move the cursor to where you want to start, and press the record transport button or press [ r ] on the keyboard.
so maybe this is a bug or something to do with my particular setup? (DMX 6Fire LT on Asus A7N8X mobo with Win XP, using Traction version 1.4.0.153)

Sounds like a job for Jules!

yep - that's the idea, isn't it?

Not sure about the other problems - I'll have a look for wierdnesses next time I'm looking at looping stuff.

Post

I understand about punching in/out -- what I mean is that I have to wait for the cursor to get there after the cursor has jumped back to the beginning of the track

I'll try a fresh install tonight and keep you posted

Post

oh, I see. It's probably something simple, I'll have a look soon.

Does Tracktion work well with Reaktor 4?

Also is it possible to rewire it to Logic 5.51?

Post

hey Jules, it's fixed :)

It probably had to do with my system rather than Tracktion -- the mobo has an onboard sound chip in addition to my sound card -- a clean reinstall of Tracktion did not fix the problem -- however, disabling the onboard sound chip in the BIOS did seem to take care of it

So now I can set the cursor and record from that point without any surprises -- tried several arbitrary timepoints and two input devices
