Tracktion is alive

Perhaps Mackie is rethinking ditching on a DAW now that they see the success Presonus is having with Studio 1 and how much exposure this gets the company for their hardware offerings? I just hope they do it right and have a dedicated software/code team constantly tweaking, fixing and updating, like Presonus does.

I've switched to Studio One and LOVE IT, but Tracktion still holds a special place in my heart as the ONLY DAW that I could understand and make music in when I was first getting into computer based recording.

I was a lo...st recording soul those few years in between Tracktion and Studio One. Cubase, Sonar, ProTools, Logic...hated them all! I even bought the lesser versions of Sonar when I was on a p.c. and Logic when I moved to Mac, telling myself that I would just have to FORCE myself to learn them, since I bought them.

Guess what, Sonar has been sitting on the HD of my old desktop, tucked away in the back of my closet for well over a year and Logic...it's still on my Mac, but I only ever use it to import iTunes tracks and export them as wave files. Yeah, it's a glorified iTunes converter for me! They were all still way too fidgety with way to many windows, sub menus and ways to execute the same function, and WAY...to visually busy to play nicely with my severely ADD brain. Sonar and those one million cryptically marked buttons all over? Ugh, it was just one long anxiety attack using that program.

I note that their newest iteration is following in the Tracktion and Studio One tradition of clean GUI's and ONE WINDOW functionality!...I've even heard rumors that Apple would like Logic to more closely resemble Garage Band and become more of a Garage Band Pro, but there's tension between them and the guy who created Logic.

Are they finally catching on that we want to simply create stuff and NOT learn software? Julian was ahead of his time!

I seem to have stumbled on a very useable platform for T3 which is a FireWire onyx mackie desk 1620i which is going into an iMac i5 4gb running windows7 under bootcamp.....quite powerful with low latency. I guess this is because the onyx desk is tested primarily to work with apple hardware and T3 is written primarily for the PC.

The Mac version of T3 on the same machine is unusable.. Just blows out all the time and is CPU hungry.

the machine now boots by default straight into windows7!
