Amazing update, nearly perfect DAW. Clip launcher and Push support only things I miss from Ableton.

Interesting.... I’m tempted to do the $325 Cubase Pro crossgrade from Ableton but the only thing that’s stopping me is I love my Push 2.
I’m testing Live 10 and really don’t think it’s worth $299 for the upgrade, pretty underwhelming new features.

I haven’t used Cubase since it was on the Atari STFM but this 9.5 update and Ableton’s lack of creativity has got me tempted.

Keep in mind that Cubase is linear composition. No clip concepts here.

I'm fine with that, I've been writing music way longer than clip based DAWs have been about.
My main concern is stability and CPU usage on mac.

I'm guessing that might happen if you uninstall the old version first. I've got midi devices mapped, sysex and everything. Cubase 9.5 loaded with out me needing to reassign any ports or load any of the device files. The windows docked, buttons, tabs in bars all as previously set. My keycommands and Macros still in effect. Personal quick controls loadable in the drop down. VST's still displaying as set via Plugin Manager. Media bay with my favourites and folders to scan, it even automatically assigned them to the new tile selection in the right zone.

I didn't have to move 1 thing. The only thing that needed loading was my extra drum maps.

I will be fishing out those files though. I like to back them up.

Not upgrade to 9.5 yet (I will soon) but I can tell you Cubase 9.0.30 is running like a dream on sierra.

The audio performance easy doubles Live 9, I did a test running MReverb VST in both live and cubase and live 9 is a joke.

I did email Ableton about how poor it was and this is the reply. decide for yourself.

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out about this. Indeed, Live and Cubase are completely different programs and are not identically optimized. The two when compared in various ways will probably always show different results, as with any two DAWs. In your test, it sounds like Cubase is more efficient with this particular task, although there are many variables about your tests that we don't know.

We are always working to optimize Live's performance, so this may improve over time.

In any case, it is outside of our support scope to benchmark the software, since it isn't something we can provide an immediate solution to.

All the best,

*****

jancivil seems to be a bit out of the loop but Quicktime for Windows was discontinued by Apple with various widely publicized vulnerabilities. Requiring Quicktime to be installed would put Steinberg's customers at a huge security risk.
Fair enough. I knew they weren't continuing to update it, I did not know there were security issues.
Can you cite where you get they're going to create the ability to export audio in Cubase? That would be huge.

Pissed me off to update and something I rely on is kaput, no warning. I'm too old for time to be flushed down the tubes by someone I'm paying.

There actually was a big announcement post prior to the release of the upgrade. The QT problems were a big stink and actually caused the Borgz more trouble than it caused you. It actually forced them to do something that needed to be done for a long time.

But, there is no saying when/if the replace audio in video function will come back. We just know the new engine is in progress.

Really, a big announcement to signal to us all that Replace Audio in Video would fail for some time to come? And this was distributed how, exactly? Or was I to infer from 'not based in QuickTime' Replace Audio in Video was kaput indefinitely.

I don't think it was in the version history, something I do read.

not to mention that prior to that release there were a LOT of discussion threads around the QT problems. And, contrary to normal behavior, the Borgz guys were talking about it.

OK for your purposes that is a BIG announcement. What is that, an Avid forum? I don't know what that is or how it is I'm supposed to find that this must've have been really obvious now.

As to bullshit, I mean I find the company doing this bullshit. I find them telling me to GFM behind a stolen account bullshit. I find Steinberg to be brimming with bullshit. That is my mind saving the screenshot, alright? I am more pissed off than ever about it, so thanks for that.

You're the only one complaining about this right now. You might be the only one who didn't know about this yet.

He/she's not the only one complaining. I'm just pointing out that it wasn't a secret. It's almost impossible to tell everyone every possible change that may affect the user base through every possible media channel. So, jan missed it. It affected him/her. I agree with the frustration too ... it's just that QT had to go, and the proper solution is not easy.
