Captain Beyond? Puh-leeze. They were popular among the kids I hung out with at the time their first record came out, and that album did have a nice sound to it, but I actually saw them in a hockey arena in Dayton Ohio when they were touring that stuff, and they were remarkably lame. I remember commenting to a guitarist buddy of mine immediately afterwards "Bobby Caldwell is a fine drummer. The rest is just noise."

Aw well... Another teen dream I had held on to shattered. I always liked that album. Sucks they sounded bad live... Nice to hear from a (former?) Ohioan...

My turn:
Steve Gibbons Band (apologies if he's been mentioned).
This long time rocker has (imho) turned out some great music and I highly recommend "Rollin' On" from around '76. Superb blend of rock, country and rock n roll, with even a nice ballad.
Produced by Pete Townsend and you can hear some Who influences there. Still available on cd and he's still rockin on.
Yes.. Howard Devoto - check out his Luxuria stuff, if you can find it.
Thanks to the person that mentioned Gentle Giant from Netflix - I'm checking that out.

From the 50's - Johnny Burnette - Train Kept a Rollin' (nuff said)
From the 80's - Big Star, Tommy Keane- Great 80's rock/pop
My all time favorite band that fits this category_ Glass Harp! Phil Keaggy is amazing at his psychedelic best, in this case. I saw them eons ago opening for (gasp, dare I say it?) Slade.. He was sublime...

Definately Guadalcanal Diary! I turned an entire campus onto the song, "Vista!" They were a great band.

Mark Knophler (spelling) is still around and doing music.

Has Boston ever really been anyone other than Tom Shultz (I think that's his name)? I don't think this band has ever disbanded. They just release once a decade. ;-p

Oooh I love Shriekback. My old band and I did a cover of 'Faded Flowers.' To this day, it is one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I know of--highly recommended to those who haven't heard of it.

Also, I was thinking about the great band, 'Japan.' That is a band that had SO much potential. Also 'Dead Can Dance.'

Though both David Syslvian (Japan) and Mark Hollis (Talk Talk) have had some truly sublime solo moments in the last 10-15 years IMHO ...

Oh yeah and Marc Almond always desrved way more success than he ever recieved.
(Though I think "Jackie" was a big pisstake on how succesful he may have been had he infact been hetrosexual and not a screaming flamer).
Doesn't negate his brilliance none the less.

He's put out ALOT of very good material IMHO.

I would have loved to hear a studio album from the Screamers...I actually saw a few clips of them on TV last night!

I need to check out Blood on the Saddle, I've heard about them, but never heard them before...
