Universal language fits well. Relationship of rhythm to pulse/heart beat: that's really fundamental shit.

yup agreed... same here...respirator wrote: I don't listen to music - much. Only a few CDs a week. Never, ever music radio. Sometimes a lot of days goes by without me listening to any music (I read or listen to talk radio). Too much music listening riuns my ability to create music.
only listen to music in the car or talk radio... radio plays and stuff....
at home I'm mostly not listening to music... except when I'm cleaning up or having a party

The evidence that this is true abounds on pop radio.respirator wrote:Too much music listening ruins my ability to create music.

I'll add one ...
A friend of mine still swears that although Hendrix titled his song 'Purple Haze', he is actually singing 'Blue Haze'. He absolutely will not be convinced any other way.

I'm sure if this as been said...10 pages is a lot to read through...but it's a simple answer...the stupidest thing I have heard about music (other things apply to this as well) "I am the best"...
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Don't worry, Mr. Instructor. Some day the world will appreciate your (tragically misunderstood) genius.

Do we have a winner or what

in a way the process should be a little worse.
He splits the signals..he plays over their music making other parts, rhythmically ok but totally "out of the contest" melodies.
He says it with a disgusted face, he's not vulgar or offended. he's just rough as a grizzly and he doesn't know that.
"the beat is on and I so wrong
the beat is on and I so wrong
I may be totally wrong but I'm a..."

Often heard from white middle-age yuppie-types I've tried to discuss music with:
"Oh, I'm VERY open-mided...I love ALL music! Well, except rap of course..."

It's the "of course" that always pisses me off: the insinuated "You know what I mean, fellow white man! Nudge-nudge, wink-wink!" barely disguised bigoted/racist mindset...the assumption that "of course you don't listen to that stuff either since you're white too, right?"
Too many times I've ripped people a new one for that comment or one just like it...after which I usually get branded as being "overly sensitive about music" (I guess some people get a little upset when when you call them a bigoted asshole to their faces...
).

That's not necessarily racism. Hiphop still has the power to revolt older generations. I don't understand why though.Har wrote:Often heard from white middle-age yuppie-types I've tried to discuss music with:
