@AQ: Long as you (and others!) can keep from slipping in personal digs, seems to me the technical points you're bringing up are appropriate for this catch-all thread. Just remember that TMTOWTDI and not every standard in the book gets followed religiously... or even occasionally, in some instances.

I know Meffy. And I'm trying to keep it civil and constructive (though you'll see AD already started in with the digs. I don't care about that though, I'm tuff. It's lies about my product that set me off.)Meffy wrote:@AQ: Long as you (and others!) can keep from slipping in personal digs, seems to me the technical points you're bringing up are appropriate for this catch-all thread. I just really think the guy needs to consider the attitude that he approaches these things with. We had this discussion already months ago. Someone who wants to use his synth can't because of the issue. He could have fixed it 10 times for the time spent telling us everybody else is wrong... just can't help but speak up.
And I WOULD like to see this product be useful. I'd use it! And I think that's the gist of the OP's topic.

Everyone's got their own take on how to go about things. Make suggestions, give information and opinion, but don't try to insist. You know that would be counter-productive.

Hey Kloz,

...hi !
...I have a new aproach to my music. I just load synth like Xhip and other "small interface" synths and dial the sound that i like...i secuence a 4/6/8/12/16 bar loop (dependes on the day)...and freeze/flatten in ableton live
i use some of those things in a sampler and such...sometimes i do use Xhip as it is...in particular for the supersaw...since is impossible for me to "loop" in a sampler a supersaw without a losing the feeling of the synth.
i am more of a SAMPLER fan for real...but i like to have nice and easy synth around !
also...i use about 3 instance in Live's Rack. so...i don't have any patch...i try to avoid that...
Xhip is easy to program. i just dial stuff that i am happy with really fast.
and if i am really out of my mind...i just use Element of Surprise by UGO !
I am not a OOOOHHH I'VE CREATED A MONSTER SYNTH PATCH...
(actually i am like that with MASSIVE...but then...i haven't used them in any song so far !!!)
but more like OOOOOH I'VE CREATED A SYNTH LINE AND I'VE PROCESSED A 100 TIMES AND NOW I CAN'T REMBER MY NAME...BUT MEN IT SOUNDS WEIRD AND ATRACTIVE !!
for some time i've been putting "limits" to my tools in order to develope "creative" workarounds...
yeah...maybe weird....but i've been lost in the sea of multiples options and modulation and stuff for many years....i am finally finding my way now. Slowly.
anyway...i am ALMOST sure that i saw a bank of patches in some KVR signature in this tread... it's over 90 pages but it shouldn't be so hard to find !
anyone knows who is the user with these ?
whooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!!

Yes what it's saying is that you shouldnt use allNotesOff in place of using actual individual noteOffs. But that doesnt change the fact that you are actualy supposed to turn all notes off in response to an allNotesOff message. The two things are not mutualy exclusive.aciddose wrote:that's either changed recently, or the page differs from the actual spec. the spec states clearly that all note-on messages must always be followed by note-off messages, even if a allnotesoff is presented - and that the allnotesoff message must be presented after all note-off messages have already been.
And I agree 100% that a host sending an allNotesOff message in place of individual noteOff messages is broken.
But imho not turning all notes off in response to an allNotesOff message is broken behaviour also.
So the bug (if this is actualy what it is) is basicly a coicidence of broken usage of allNotesOff, and broken handling of allNotesOff.

Ok I ran a quick test on some bass line I had.
But it doesn't solve the pb... rather creates a new one, here's what happens :
with Respect AllNotesOFf flag activated, when I pause/stop the playback in the middle of a MIDI note, the sound is effectively cut. But when I start the playback again... simply no more sounds coming out of Xhip.
Maybe asking Fuzzpilz how he solved the "bug" on Oatmeal would save some time, with all due respect... I mean the symptoms where exactly the same.

i'm beginning to think he's joking, and the other, uh, what's his handle... i'm sure you know who i'm talking about anyway is a sock-puppet.
well, chuel, we'll have to spend plenty of time to debug it then. i'll work in some code to write a debugging log regarding midi messages and we'll see where we go from there.
there may also be a bug in my "allnotesoff" function, i'll check for that. it seems very odd that you'd get absolutely no sound, though

ok, obviously a sock puppet. i'm not just "beginning to think" either, i've known for quite some time. already stated this in this thread.
the synth was never broken, it's the host that's broken.
http://xhip.cjb.net/xhip/releases/0/6/1 ... 6.16.1.zip <-- works perfectly
