What's your idle power draw OB? I used to leave my PC on 24/7 for years and years. Used to be an old wives tale that it was cheaper than the rebooting it all the time. Haha. No. Get yourself a 'kill-a-watt' meter off of Amazon or ebay and check the power draw of all the things in your studio. It'll blow your mind how much money you're wasting with everything plugged in. Even if not on. I had a Pioneer amp that drew 80 watts by itself. OFF! My PC was 220 watts. Idle!
We calculated that my buddy who also ran his PC 24/7 for about the last 15 years, probably spent about $200-$250+ per year on electricity. X 15 years. OMG. What a waste. He could have had quite a collection of samples and instruments for that by now. I don't want to know how much I lost over the years on wasted idle and phantom power. Do yourself a favor and become efficient. Powerstrips in every area of your home and studio. Flip them off when not in use. Spend the savings here.
Anyway.... back on track.
Today's the last day for a few items on my list. So just a reminder for everyone if you forgot.
Cinesamples (I just got cinebrass core for $201 over at timespace.com today. Usually $399)
Chocolate audio Black Album Drums $74.50. Love this kit! Only Slate's old SSD Black kit compares.
8dio adagietto, agitato, adagio 70% off until tomorrow. Love the sound of these.
Audiobro LASS ends today or soon I believe too. 25% off. Wondering if they will discount further for xmas?
U-he Diva $115 at audiodeluxe still. Grab it while you still can.
Probably everything on the list over at Rekkerd's deals list. lolz.

A bad year for CM magware: This month and every month it seems what they got to offer is: A cut down EQ plug
What do they got next month, oh yes, a cut down EQ plug
Don't think about suprising us readers CM.
Acustica Audio Pink CM, I can hardly wait to get that one

Did you miss out on the Focusrite Red issue? Full Red install and if you're like me and only buy about once or twice a year, you got a bunch of other cool things as well like D16 Frontier.Numanoid wrote:A bad year for CM magware: This month and every month it seems what they got to offer is: A cut down EQ plug

I guess if you base the magazine value on the included software, it's a better deal to buy it occasionally. If you're a subscriber there's a bit of "filler" CM plugins: cut down versions of plugins whose full versions sometimes cost maybe €20 or €30. Not saying that all the CM versions are bad, there's some quite good stuff there. But considering how cheap some of the full versions are, throwing one out a bit more frequently wouldn't hurt.
Beat do a better job here, but the magazine won't be much use unless you can read German.

Wished for a really good magware too... i guess we were really spoiled by stuff like Dune CM, Beatzille, Loomer Cumulus, the Tone2 plugins, and others. Not to forget Z3TA+ (!!), or Rapture.

At this time I prefer TrackSpark to CM. They also focus mostly on FX plugs, but at least those are the full version, and not cut down versions.
I find myself not that interested bothering with LE version anymore

There's a sale every few months, often at 40% off, but sometimes more. Last interesting sale was December 1, 2015, when I got Computer Music for a year at £7,27 as you have to look at their pricing in other countries to get the best deal.

Thanks. I'll be on the lookout.
Up until today pocketmags had a sale on CM,FM and musictech for $27.99 each for 13 issues on the first two. Their site was giving me fits on checkout though timing out. So it ended. But I thought that was much better than the typical $40 per year.

I'm nearly at the end of a 2 year subscription I got from Future's site which was 2 years for the price of 1. I'll see if they run that again as if I do renew I don't want to have my issues split across multiple apps. I already have a bunch of older issues in Zinio from when they used to give out vouchers like candy.

thanks. I may have to start a thread on this when I get the SSD. They still make me a little nervous because, unlike a rotating drive, they usually don't any warning that they are failing. And I tend to forget to back up.....OB-XKeys wrote:You are correct, don't forget to over-provision, for reliable data integrity, high sustained performance and extended endurance through garbage collection (anal formula below). I have always focused on fast disc speeds, it really makes a difference for the entire PC experience, back in the day I used to run two Western-Digital Raptor 10,000 RPM HD's in a RAID Array 0 Striped, that PC was so fast it did not become outdated for over 10 years and it was a single-core CPU, but these SSD's make that look like caveman tools.Rational wrote:For SSDs it's best to leave at least 10% from what I remember. But you can set the over provisioning in the software to manually hard set this permanently to ensure it has enough space for garbage collection duties.
Percentage Over-provisioning = Physical Capacity - User Capacity / User Capacity
(10% is usually a safe bet if your not into the math ) as Rational said... Hardset and forget it best, and for God's Sake, never defrag!

So that Octomorph thing looks interesting over at VST Buzz. And only 9.99 euros - not sure what that is in dollars right now.
It looks like you can create your own mix of sounds also. I probably have no use for it whatsoever. But it is cool....

Yeah, I'd pay that too if I saw it. It's worth it to have the samples and videos which are often either useful in some way, or at least entertaining.
