I used an old XP laptop until it crashed on day in 2014 and I was never able to get it to load again.eLawnMust wrote: Mon Oct 21, 2024 8:07 pm Best way is to forget Linux & go on ebay & buy a 20 year-old laptop with XP on it... A couple years ago I bought two from same seller one for $9.99 & the other for $12.99 plus shipping (a U400 & a dv4000) both still going strong the U400 had a 500 GB HDD...
I'm fine with running newer plugins that sound better than older ones. I have no affinity for 8bit chip sounds. When I want to chase the past I have plenty of guitars available to me.eLawnMust wrote: Sun Nov 24, 2024 12:04 pm
Folks they don't make 'em like that anymore, Lke SUVs DAWs nowadays all look the same, Consume mass amounts of resources, They can't run on older systems (except for Reaper which runs on XP still & you can STILL use DX-DXi in it) and most aren't making better music then back in the day they are just piling on more FX which isn't actual music it's soundFX design...

Making good/better music has nothing to do with the DAW and everything to do with the artist...most aren't making better music then back in the day
? DAWs (old or new) don't inherently add any FX whatsoever. Again this has nothing to do with the DAW; how heavy or light one goes on effects is up to the artist.they are just piling on more FX which isn't actual music it's soundFX design...
