Prizo, you can f**k off. I'm very interested in the possibilities that high gain presents, and I usually understate my knowledge and opinions because it's honestly not my area of expertise and specialty. But that doesn't mean that my ears can't hear what they hear.
Frankly, your tone is no more punishing and brutal than Evanesence's tone on "Bring me to Life". Which in a roundabout way is a compliment, since it's a good tone, but I know you'll take it as an insult. Insult or compliment, though, your actual tone is no different. It's the song structure and approach that are making it sound heavy. When they ARE in isolation for a chord or two (as you mention), the amp is "fine", but nothing magical. To me, that's also a compliment, because it shows that you know how to create a heavy song; however, you'll also take THAT as an insult because you seem to think you have some sort of glorious tone.
Your tone is typical. It's nothing special. It's "good", but it doesn't show me anything I haven't heard before, end of story.
When you're done high school and start to gain more of an appreciation for what music is as a whole, you'll know that "heavy" is all about attitude and songwriting, not about tone. Some of the heaviest shit can still be played with an acoustic guitar, and some of your "metal gods" have said just as much in interviews. At least THEY understand what it means, even if you don't.
Learn to take compliments when you see them, and learn something along the way. Thinking that you have all the answers and know everything will leave you as a very narrow and limited fool.

When "pros" layer Hi-Gain guitars, do they add takes in which they only play the root notes, fifth, and so on... separately ? Sometimes I wonder how they achieve to maintain clarity with hiigh gain.

If it's so simple why don't YOU play it then?Midiworks wrote:Its a simple riff...prizo wrote:Hahaha... I wish I could do that for you MW! ITs beyond my ability.
Maybe one of those other clips?really nothing quite special.
Doesnt have to be 100%, just in that way but played with that same attitude.
In the end will be the word.

Never heard of that. Never saw that. Never done that. It sounds VERY different when you play more than one note with distortion. To maintain clarity with high gain is a mixture of playing, the guitar and the amp.cheul wrote:When "pros" layer Hi-Gain guitars, do they add takes in which they only play the root notes, fifth, and so on... separately ? Hell I can play all those.. Rather easily! I want to send MIdiworks a quick sound without any processing that sounds similar to the Machine Head Clip, obvioulsy without the sheen, but you will hear the similarity.. UNless its possible to PM a soundclip? I have no idea. BUt in all honesty those sounds Prizo sent are NOT something you can do with a sim yet!! Maybe this sim!! Maybe, I have been playing heavy music for almost 15 years , playing Death Metal and similar and my 5150 is STILL the one.

I thought about it and my conclusion is that you can't play guitar.Midiworks wrote:Maybe you think about it and find the answer yourself...fritzman wrote: If it's so simple why don't YOU play it then?
For some reasons (it's cool to have them standing in the corner or something) you own 2 guitars and you have not seen them for 5 years because they are collecting dust in europe. Right?

Go ahead, KV. I think you're right, those heavy sounds are not possible completely with todays amp sim plugins.Killvehicle wrote:Hell I can play all those.. Rather easily! I wasn't just being snippy because I'm not currently very fond of Prizo... I just really don't see what's so special about those clips...??
KV, an unprocessed WAV of one of those clips would be handy. If you have the tabs, I could even give them a try.
Regarding layering-- it's handy to turn the gain down when layering. A tone like that "alone" (as discussed with a forum member in a recent PM) might require more gain, but when you start stacking and layering, you're generally better off with less gain in order to maintain clarity, articulation, and the pick attack.
