Yes, I imagine someone sitting behind Jules at the PC and saying "that needs to be changed", "that as well", "put in a traditional mixer", "put in these 'traditional-but-clunky' bits"... "that's it..."

both end up staring at "Trackuendo"...

or straight Nuendo... I was actually really excited by the idea of trying a new paradigm!

So how would that work in your usual sequencer?

Well, he'd be using a mixer... and if it's like Cubase's mixer (I think he uses Logic, but just as an example), that would mean on a project that size you'd need to scroll all over the place to access the static-sized channel controls in order to see whether the wee little "M" and "S" have a fake glowing light active, and then press their wee little mute/solo buttons.

No?

Just a guess... I don't know from nothing.... ;) I understand that Logic's mixer page is more efficient than this, but I don't know Logic at all.

I'm not using a mixer to mute or solo a track. I can just clearly see the status by a) the track listing (which displays mute/solo settings at every zoom setting) or by the color of either my ruler (solo) or the track parts (mute).
No need to scroll through any mixer, I just select a track or part and perform the appropriate solo/mute command, which will then be indicated as noted above. Easy, convenient and no confusion.

Come on, not being able to see a mute status at low zoom levels is just freaking ridiculous on complexed arrangements, no matter how you put it!

No, in Logic, even if you have all the tracks sized incredibly small in your arrange window, you can still see which ones are muted or soloed (muted looks a bit "whited out" and soloed looks yellowish).

Maybe we need a magnification feature for tracks that works like the Mac OSX menu bar... it might actually be useful for Tracktion (I always keep the magnification feature turned off on the OSX menu bar)

Post

Well, I usually can tell by listening if a track is solo'ed :hihi:

I don't understand. Even if you're zoomed in, you can still see the filters section where the Mute and Solo buttons are shown clearly at the end of the track. (Or, as IIRs says, listen whether a track is playing or not. :hihi:)

Yes, that should improve performance. :hihi:

Ah, I see Sascha. I like it, and I'd go for that in Tracktion, too! It can only ADD to functionality, not take anything away. I like that. :D

Yeah, it wouldn't hurt.. ;)

Seems like a poor reason to ditch the whole sequencer though.. or perhaps you don't have a scroll-wheel Sascha? I couldn't imagine navigating round T without one..
