I was in a band in the mid-90's where all of us played with serrated knives bowed very lightly on the strings (except the drummer, oc)... over a big PA it was just beautiful - especially with lots of open/unison tuning. We wanted to put together a second all-bass group using the same approach, but it didn't happen unfortunately.
I would have thought most guitarists had tried bows of one sort or another - most people I know have done it.

Sheesh, guys! How many times do I have to say I've seen PLENTY of guitarists bow their guitars - I just wanted to know who THAT one was...

Ive seen Zep, Ive watched Jimmy play his 'paul' with a bow. (it sounded AWFUL!!)
It had phase shifter , (a small stone), and a cry baby wha. Very noy'zee, and
terrible.
I think that the 'egg' with its magnetic pulse/pull on the strings, works nicer
and dose a better job.
