there is a chance that windows installed usb1 drivers for your usb2 expansion. you have force windows not to insall drivers and use the ones made for it. at least you did for the one i brought. I think this was a fault with Service Pack 1

On my machine - this was a bear to manage with the USB 2.0 PCI card I bought. The install/remove procedure was quite convoluted from what I recall.

Yet again...I may be hosed...

I cannot locate ANY driver from sis (who the card is made by)...the page I finally found said that the driver must be obtained by microsoft, I cant find that puppy anywhere

Ok...Ive checked it out...I DO have the correct USB2.0 driver installed. Can anybody else think of what may be causing me this problem...?

and by the way, yay for my 100th post...party at my place (with high latency though...haha)

You may have a driver installed, but are you sure that it's actually shuttling data on your USB at 2.0 speeds?

I guess I could disable USB in the bios, since I wont be using the on-board 1.1 ports.

Are there known issues with certain processors and/or boards?

I have an AMD Athalon 2000+ on a ECS K7S5A board.

Im thinking of upgrading anyway pretty soon anyway, but I dont want to fix the problem that way. Id rather figure it out before I upgraded...I mean, heck, I do hardware support for my job working in a school district...you think Id be able to figure this out by now.

I still don't have it sorted out on my old AMD Athlon 1.2 GHz system. I bought an add-on USB2.0 PCI card, installed all the drivers, but it still seems like my camera sends photos over on 1.1 speeds.

I'm building a new box strictly because my old box is too noisy all around - Power supply, chipset fan, CPU cooling fan, disk drives (and they're full), etc.

My new machine will be built around an Asus A8V or AV8, I can't remember which, with Firewire on board. I'm 99% sure I'm going to go with a firewire interface next go around.

Yeah...

I am unsure of the speed of transfer. Is there a utility out there that can benchmark USB?

Standard Firewire specs are pretty much the same as USB2.0 (400 vs. 480)...but the next gen of firewire is supposed to be an 800 mbps transfer.

Seeing as I spent over 700 bucks on my interface, Im going to stick with USB for now.


Also,

Is anybody out there using a celeron D? In looking through different lower-end systems, I think I have narrowed my choices down to the 2.93Ghz Celeron D, and the Athalon XP 3000+

Any suggestions?

plug a camera into a usb1.1 port and transfer a large file to your hard drive. Now plug the camera into the USB2.0 port and transfer the same file. which one is quicker? Thats how I did it.

Same with me - unfortunately, I noticed no difference, which leads me to believe, that even though I have 2.0 drivers loaded, something is still buggering up my card to only work at 1.1

I cant believe it..I submitted an Email to Edirols Tech Supuport...this is what I got
Would lack of ram be a reason for high latency? Im running a Athalon 2000+ system, with 256 MB of RAM.
I use Tracktion 1 and 2. For both the lowest latency I can get is 1440 samples (or 32.6 milliseconds). This seems very high. Another user of Tracktion can get his latency as low as 3.9 ms, (with a pentium m 765 laptop).

I have also bought a USB2.0 PCI expansion card. I know people have issues at times getting the 2.0 installed on the windows XP system. Under my Device manager, I have the SiS Enhanced(extended...whatever it says) PCI USB host controller as well as the On-board 1.1 drivers listed. Are 2.0 devices sometimes know to suck down to 1.x speeds? (possibly due to drivers)?

The exact setup is Athalon XP 2000+ on a ECS K7S5A board. 256 RAM, 40 Gig HDD.

In the UA-1000's "mixer" I have the ASIO buffer size set to max. Do I need to set it lower?

Also, I am thinking of upgrading my system in the future, but not too soon. How does a Celeron 340 D (2.93 Ghz perform...or celerons in general) with the UA-1000? How does an Athalon XP 3000+ perform with the UA-1000?

I know this is alot of things to put out there, but I do not have a high speed connection, so the remote desktop option will not work for me.

Greetings,

I had no idea your PC was less than adequate; this is clearly the cause of your troubles. WIN XP itself will use up almost all of your 256MB RAM. The UA-1000 requires USB 2.0 to work. In all candor, I recommend you do a serious upgrade in order to really enjoy recording and sequencing with the UA-1000. The Celeron is less than optimal. I strongly suggest you start with a 3.0GHz Pentium4, and at least 512MB of RAM. 1GB of RAM is preferred. To overcome USB compatibility concerns, you can't go wrong if your USB ports are Intel USB ports.

That post right there from edirol just about makes up my mind that I won't be buying a UA-25 for my next interface.

That answer looks to be about as non-committal squidging out of a real thought out response that I've ever seen. In other words, computers made before last year are incompatible with UA-1000.

Hmm...Ill have to try that again. I LOVE this interface, It ROCKS.

The time I did lower the buffer size, now that I think about it, I tried using ASIO4all, and that made my system freeze.

In all honesty, I dont know what the difference between 3ms latency and 29ms is. The monitoring is zero latency...My most current project has ...probably 15 all audio tracks...with the waves ren. compressor and ren. reverb on most tracks. The CPU load is almost red, but it still works.

The system works for me now, but I know im not getting the best out of it...I will still sing the praises of the Edriol UA-1000...Id give the unit a 12 out of 10, support...id give that a 2
Now, its the principal of the thing that irks me.
