I don't consider myself a poor Mac user. Quite happy with mine. I've used them for years. Same with PCs. I have few problems with computers. I don't develop software so I wouldn't know if one is betther than the other. It's just an OS to me. Like UNIX, BSD, BeOS, OS/2, DOS, CPM, QNX or whatever... I don't give a rat's a$$ what my car's OS is, either. It takes me from point A to B.

I was sympathising with the pain Apple inflicts on its users: expensive and frequent OS upgrades, complete turnarounds on file systems and backwards compatibility, new versions of Quicktime for every new cat which always introduce compatibility problems for AU/VST developers, improper AU documentation, forcing a format split by going 100% proprietary with AU, etc etc.

I have no vested interest against Macs, and I like that people use Macs (choice is better), but I don't like seeing customers/supporters getting hosed by corporations.

How's Server 2003 running on that laptop? I know a few IT guys that run Server on laptops. How much ram are you using?

Again, I have no pain. I've never bought Quicktime Pro nor an OS upgrade. I've always used my computers as they are and just downloaded the security patches and such. You assume too much. I've bought plenty of programs that run on the machines but my biggest software purchase was AutoCAD 10, years ago. I haven't spent near that on anything for my Mac.

It's you that has missed my point. I'm not into OS wars, as I said, it's just a tool. Like a car. If people assume status with an OS, well, that's immature. I'm probably twice your age. I've just used computers to do work. I don't care if Linux is free and Bill Gates is making billions... I just don't care. Over the years I've used everything from a TRS-80's to SG's. It's just a tool. It has nothing to do with status. Good GOD.

Your supposed sincerity for "poor Mac users" is nothing of the sort. Gimmie a break. Maybe you should mean poor Mac developers? As a computer "user" I have no pain. I don't get in my car, turn the key on, and think to myself, "I'm glad I have that latest EEPROM update" or "Gee, there's a new engine block that came out, maybe I should rebuild my engine". I don't because I understand it for what it is. A tool. If it does what you want, why mess with it?

Let's quickly talk about the AU thing. Conversely, why don't developers stick to the VST spec? Absynth uses *.glo, Cameleon uses something else and there are a few others that don't stick with FXB/FXP extensions. Why? Why are there different plug-in formats? You said choice is good! I just use what works. If it doesn't work, I change it.

Dell Latitude D810, Centrino 2.13GHz, 2Gb RAM.

Installed 2003 in 20 mins, then installed all the Dell XP drivers that came on a cd with it.

Had to manually install the XP drivers for the wireless and the graphics - their setup.exe's detect that it's 2003 and won't install.

Works flawlessly now - it even boots up with no errors or warnings in the event log, which in my experience is unique!

Fast as feck too.

I have an old Dell desktop with a PIII 866, 512 MB PC133 ram and a 40GB drive that I use to run Server 2003. Its got some spare 20 GB drives in it tha I use for my backup and print server. 2k3 runs fine on even that old hardware.

Why did you do Server 2003? Stability? For work? for the hell of it? For the average end-user it's overkill.

So does the Babya OS work as exceptionally well as Babya Logic? I'm very interested, because Babya Logic 2005 is my go-to tool for mixdown and mastering processing. The Babya bass synth is particularly good at adding air and sparkle to the highend of my mixes too.

Try using the Chrome Reverse Muffler Bearing VST on your Babya setup, it made my teeth whiter. Also, the Fat Dog Belly Drum (not to be confused with BFD) is great for punch (or cocktails).
