"What Operating System do you use for your Audio Computer Setup?"

Why such a question? To make sure we (developpers, in general) target & test our plug-ins on today's main platforms. Feel free to add comments to your setup if it is "exotic", that will add some fun...

XP is so stable that I never had to bother about anything else.

XP has every tool I could possibly want right now as far as plug-ins and apps. And its very stable. I also have a Windows 98 box that I use sometimes. And a Mac with OSX that I hardly touch (got it for school a long time ago). XP is my main platform by far.

I use WinXP, and can live with it. Up until 6-months ago, my home/audio computer was Win98. For the last year or so on Win98, developers mostly told me that Win98-specific bugs could no longer be supported, and I don't blame them. It's a similar situation on Mac, a veritable jungle of incompatibilities between versions (just look at the mess you get with every new cat - poor Mac users). Developers need to make a stand against old/odd OSes to save their sanity. I think they need to tell Apple to go to hell, too, but that might just be me.

But I wish that I could use Linux and nothing else. I used to use Linux daily for work (IT/networking) and miss it now that I don't. There are so many things that are so nicely implemented in Linux. But I've grown accustomed to my Windows-only software, and I haven't the time or patience to fight with the problems in Linux (esoteric hardware support, kernel recompiling to sort out problems, library hunting, etc).

I don't consider myself a poor Mac user. Quite happy with mine. I've used them for years. Same with PCs. I have few problems with computers. I don't develop software so I wouldn't know if one is betther than the other. It's just an OS to me. Like UNIX, BSD, BeOS, OS/2, DOS, CPM, QNX or whatever... I don't give a rat's a$$ what my car's OS is, either. It takes me from point A to B.

Linux? Yeah, I'll leave that to the geeks out there. I wouldn't build my own guitar, why would want to build my own OS... I've got better things to. Like play music.

Main machine is XP, but I maintain a second machine running Win98se and BeOS. 98se to support some nice 'old' cards Korg Oasys and Lexicon Core32, and BeOS because its cool...
