TracktionKeys simply allows you to play MIDI devices from your PC keyboard. It is probably of most use to laptop owners who do not wish to carry an extra controller synth around with them.
Unlike many other keyboard plugins, TracktionKeys uses a low level keyboard hook to allow it to trap key presses even when the TracktionKeys window is not being displayed. This means you can editing synth patches on a VSTi and TracktionKeys will continue to convert your key presses to notes.
TracktionKeys supports fast toggling of regular and MIDI keyboard mode by using a user defined key.
You can create your own keyboard layouts. Use this if your keyboard layout does not correspond well with German style keyboards, or if you wish to have more specific control over key functions.
Please explain, thanks.adbe.org wrote:What does it do?

MKey user interface
Unlike many other keyboard plugins, MKey uses a low level keyboard hook to allow it to trap key presses even when the MKey window is not being displayed. This means you can be editing synth patches on a VSTi and MKey will continue to convert your key presses to notes.
MKey supports fast toggling of regular and MIDI keyboard mode by using the caps lock key. When the caps lock mode is active, MKey switches to MIDI mode, and when it is off, your keyboard will behave as normal.
A further feature of MKey is that limited velocity control can be achieved by holding down either the ALT or CTRL buttons whilst playing. Normal keystrokes will be treated as medium velocity, whilst keystrokes with the CTRL key held down will produce a softer note, and keystrokes with the ALT key held down will create a louder note.
New : user customisable key maps
You can use the included Keymapper program to create your own keyboard layouts. Use this if your keyboard layout does not correspond well with US/UK style keyboards, or if you wish to have more specific control over key functions.

not much to explain, its a modified copy of the text. but I removed it already. it shouldn't be in the help file anymore as it just was a starting point for me.

That's cool then.
Thanks for your plugin, it works very well on my laptop (with eXT), unlike all the other free qwerty2midi plugs I tried.

You should promote this on other forums here as well, IMO the best prog of this sort! Thanks again, turns my laptop into a stand-alone DAW

Wow, that's a really great tool
! If it only would be possible to configure it to hook all the keys _I_ wanted it to hook.
For example, in eXT I would like to insert notes through TracktionKeys and move the step record cursor through eXT. This could be done by letting TracktionKeys hook all keystrokes for all alphanumerical letters (A-Z and 0-9, which would correspond to notes) and at the same time let eXT hook all the keystrokes to the cursor keys. This would enable me to enter notes and move the step record cursor without having to switch between eXT and TracktionKeys all the time (twice a second, considering all the errors I make when inserting notes
).
This would really do it for me!
<edit>
Or a more general way could be to provide the user with a keymap in which keys could be selected to be included in the key hook. That would certainly be helpful if you realize that you need to pass keystrokes of a certain function key at the same time as you would like TracktionKeys to hook all the notes. For example, you often use alt, shift and ctrl when manipulating notes in the eXT sequencer at the same time as you move the cursor around using the cursor keys.
