kylen, its all love and understanding until someone misunderstands.

Keep it clean here people, I really don't want this thread locked.

Yes, I'll do some sintefex examples as well. I've found a really nice combo on the sintefex that is the Decca EQ (giving the flavour, no equing done) + Tubetech CL1B for the compression curve.

Will post them a bit later today. Stay tuned.

Havent heard the examples as of yet. I will probably buy VMC although I read (and heared) a LOT of differnt opinions over the last few days (I even asked two pro engineers about it).

What bothers me most is the argument that arose here . this is friggin infantile.
stop it.

SO, DO U FEEL LUCKY, PUNK ?! WELL, DO YA ??!?!

I, too, were VERY impressed with its results (particularly with its T-whatevr Mode). but I wont go and compare it with other compressors. why ? first, because Im not a pro and more important: because its unnecessary. one should decide what he/she want to buy based on: price, reliability, QUALITY OF THE RESULTS etc etc. I also know for a fact that people buy stuff based on HIPE - too. that's also fine with me.

Do whatever u wish to, just dont argue on it :box:

(unless Aleksey wants it to be in the forum headlines at all time - which is also fine by me  )

Just for everybody's information. This thread is NOT just about one single compressor, it's for ALL of em so keep em examples rolling in, you too Tony! Now put that UAD to work. :)

Also, more examples from outboard compressors would be most wellcome!

Cheers!

Yeah, I was wrong - I thought Tony wanted to stop comparisons by his phrase 'they aren't public domain'.

Please do not continue on that. Because anybody can put these into comparison - even in mp3 form. Just not in public.

Im pretty sure UA does want the wavs they post to be public domain. they must.

So its OK to do it in public. yes. thats what i was saying.

all is happy and good.

the only ones that arent are the vinnie and ronnie ones, and those arent in wav anyways.

its obvious when you checkout their site, there are notices on the vinnie and ronnie files as to why they arent available as wav, and no notices at all on anything else so they MUST want those to be used openly. i think they even go as far as to say so.

so its good, its cool, we can all use these wav files for comparisons along with everything else. publicly.

indeed comparisons are a good thing and the best way to decide for yourself, no matter what you decide.

i'm sorry to be confusing to anyone who isnt fluent in english, i am trying to keep my syntax simple.

I have yet to see any kind of a chip on UA's shoulder, just on their cards.

Where do you come from? people from certain coutries make certain faults with the english language. E.g. we germans like to translate things word by word. :)

Thanks guys for keeping it civil. :)

I've added some more examples today. Four examples from the sintefex, various models, compressing the male vocal sample and one from Kjaerhus GAC-1, using the preset: Fat Vocals. It turned out really good without tweaking at all (a lot of gain reduction though).

Anybody got some uncompressed audio sources that we could use? I'd love to get my hands on some uncompressed rap or agressive rock vocals. Uncompressed, well recorded accoustic guitar would be really nice too. I could try to record my guitar at some point but my room at home sounds so crap that I better do it in the uni studio and this might take a while. Actually, on Thursday we will be recording a jazz piano-trio in a commercial studio so I'll ask the band for permission to use short un-treated clips from that session.

Cheers!

I can't say these are uncompressed (haven't listened yet) but acidplanet.com usually has some kind of mixing contest going on where it might be possible to get some cool tracks for standard comparison in different processors. I can't say anything about the copyright police but even if that;s the case a short excerpt might fall under everones radar.

This stuff there is strictly for the contest use so I think we should refrain from using these samples.
But for private learning purposes these samples are really good. :)

Well Ok then - that's probably a whole other bag of worms. Plus we don't really know what front end they've used on the tracks - I think that has more than a little to do with what the softer stuff sounds like when it's compressed up (did I say that right?). :)

sounds fresh but warm the same time at least
in my ears... :D don`t know how to upload
the example...!?

Brilliant idea for a thread. I think there should be a whole new index on the forum opened so for compressors,eq's,reverbs'etc. Then you submit your file and give info as to what you used or something. Everyone could hear the unbiased sound samples from different processors. I like this. One thing though, haven't heard the sound examples yet because Windows media player doesn't seem to support .ogg What could I use to hear these files?

OggDS

Get it here:

http://tobias.everwicked.com/oggds.htm

Or try another mediaplayer which supports ogg:
WinAmp, Foobar2000 etc. ( http://www.vorbis.com/software/#windows )

or winamp
