yea, i just want it in a little pocket unit

i guess i was thinking one could record stuff then transfer it later and do processing...are you thinking of humming into a batt operated unit and it would play a synth or something?

really, i hadn't thought of going voice>instrument. i was just thinking about a pocket multitrack with punch. i was thinkin i'd make the sounds with my voice

i know zoom makes a nice looking batt operated 4track...
edit, they have a little batt op dealie with a built in mic, i think it's 2track, but now Roland has a new really good looking sampler with a condenser mic that runs on batts, seems like it's got everything you need for a portable unit....or even a studio unit...i think it's called SP-404

the way I see it that's precisely where technology is headed...I have no opinion either way..I can see the benefits for sure, and I would take full advantage of them....but you can't ignore the battle that rages on (one I'm sick of) of so called real musicians and those who just use a computer...(which for the record again, I believe the computer is an instrument) if such a device existed (and someday will) it will surely intensify that battle...I ask will the outcome be better or worse? A valid question, and one with enough varibles I wouldn't even attempt to take a guess...

see I was thinking something for music like my drawing tablet example....a miracle machine...not just a recorder...

if a program let you chose instrument, style, etc., and then you just hit "generate" (it's not like these programs don't exist) that would be empowering. unless the generator was around 4 yrs old, i wouldn't bother with the composition. however, these things make many feel as if they're writing music. i want everyone to be able to have that feeling no matter the stage

It's still still survival of the fittest in this industry. If everyone was making music like this, the best would still get the most respect and the rest will be considered amatuer or trash. Every generation it seems goes through this "dilema". Art is art. As long as there's enough room for artistic expression in a medium, true genius could emerge.

i have an ok walkman sized cassette my wife gave me, i think it records mono only...i've used it to record shortwave and trucker cb (i'm about half a mile from where I-80/294 meet) with the auto-record function while sleeping...i would be happy to just carry that thing around and hum and sing ideas into it, but i honestly haven't thought of it until now...

EDIT: i've always wanted one of those little Yamaha midi boxes about the size of a video tape...they would be great on a bus, waiting at doctor's office, etc...i've never tried one but they look cool...
