Ableton Live and Cubase are honestly what I believe to be the best implementations of Rewire and yep, I've tried most hosts that support the standard.
Tracktion: Very slow and sluggish, doesn't work properly on my machine with Reason.
ACID: Rewire slave runs very slow
Sonar: Inflexbile routing, seems to cause some latency issues when inserting plugins with latency, wierd.
Adobe Audition: Totally unstable ReWire, hung Reason.exe many times.
Orion: Too unstable , crashed it a few times.
n-Track studio: Too unstable
Cubase & Ableton are totally rock solid, the slave runs really fast. I don't think I've ever seen Cubase SL 3.11 or Ableton Live 5.02 crash while using ReWire, ever, totally rock solid.
Unfortunately, they arent exactly small programs, but if I wanted to just do mixing in the main program and slave a ReWire host, I'd go with Ableton Live 6 (when it gets released) since I find it quicker to work with for Rewire tasks.
I can't say I've tried FL Studio or Bidule though.
Good luck

What's the tiniest ReWire host you know of?

buzz has a rewire machine (prolly around 100kb)... syncing song transport seems to be a problem between reason & buzz *sigh*...

Try to start your song on bar 2, not bar 1. That problem even exists in Cubase ... the rewire link seems to need a tiny amount of time to properly synchronize the apps. One initial bar of silence does the trick in Cubase.bassport wrote:On the other hand: Tracktion 2 still doesn't play the first note after you've hit play. It seems that nobody got the Rewire implementation right.
When I was younger I used to be in doubt. These days I'm not so sure.
