I don't think naming synths by their experience level is a good idea. When you think of a name like Juno or MS-20 or OB-1 you tend to think of the kind of sound it makes, not the target audience. That's how it's legacy is established. If I say "MS-20 synth" most will probably think of some kind of hard bass or lead, not a PCM piano. Calling a ROMpler "Juno" obscures that.
Also with a name like Juno you'd expect it to live up to a similar legacy of the original, which it doesn't.

Interesting.Ildon wrote: Interesting! I didn't know that all of the Junos were marketed towards beginners, so that kind of puts a spin on things. The Fantom Xa is also marketed towards beginners, and it looks to me like Roland is just trying to make money off of the name, though. Given the Juno-G's feature list, I doubt it'll be that much cheaper than the Xa. If the Juno-G is $800-900 dollars, and the Fantom Xa is $1,000-1,100, then I don't really see the point in having yet another Roland keyboard people won't buy (like the GW-7).
The Juno-D was maybe a good move on Roland's part, because that's only 600 bucks and has the sounds but none of the sequencing or expansion capabilities.
If Roland's Fantom engine sounds better than the XP/JV engine (JV/XP had some weird looping that made a lot of notes unusable), is cleaner, more usable, etc. then maybe... hmm.
Maybe this is some kind of proof of concept thing for Roland's "trademarks=money" standpoint.
It looks like it's gonna blow up in their faces if that's the case.

Yup, I think that's probably what's going on here.
Maybe the Juno-G will become a legend in its own right, though. We can't really say right now. The XP-30 did, which was a surprise, so I'm sure it's possible. I think it'll come down to how much cheaper the Juno-G is compared to the Fantom Xa. Also, keep in mind, a lot of people like us, who record on computers and don't need an uber-synth, buy stuff like the XP-10, XP-30, Juno-D, etc. because it sounds the same as the higher end stuff, but lacks a bunch of features that would be useless to us.
Edit: What the other guy said really did kind of make sense, but I still think Roland's just out to make money off the name. And associating such a legendary name with these synths that will probably go unnoticed is why I said it was almost an insult.

Possibly for the same reason that Roland can't name them for what they offer and not what name was on some previous panel.ozinexile wrote: Same goes for the new VP550, SH-201 and MC-808. Why can't we evaluate these new synths for what they offer and not what name is on the panel.

I think this is a welcome addition:

I wonder how much will it cost. 200€? (But I fear 300€.)

That looks kinda cool and so does this:

Its got 64Mb of Triton ROM in it and the Z1's dual arpeggiators and its multi-timbral. If the price is good it could be a very handy expansion for an over-stretched CPU.

Whoa, Mr. Tunes...
I've been *begging& the world to bestow this thing upon me for a decade!
Notice the HotHand has an expression output so you can hook it up o something useful?
Now if only they'd make a box, with 3D position sensor for mixing surround sound (or
3D holographic sound if you can afford it) and all the things I try to get the Photon
X25 to do.
Also a drumpad with aftertouch with kaoss pad capabilities
I am in heaven.

Since roland can't ever think of anything new, they remade the Handsonic:
