"tiny mics which can be placed on the edge of sunglasses" using $2 electret capsules you can find most places.*edit* and they work disgustingly well for the money.

I used the Panasonic capsules from Digi-key electronics many times and kenn is absolutely right... They work really good, esp. for the cost. The noise is on par with the MKE2s, as is the FR.
Soldering skills are esential, as you have to solder small wires directly to the elements (I only ruined a couple of them )

...Have you got a raw sample recording kenn done with the mini mics you made?

I don't record stuff all that often (though I'd like to do more), and when I do it's usually ambiences - natural or urban, fireworks, etc. I think the last thing I recorded was bits of a Christmas parade this past Christmas.

If this is the sort of thing you'd like to hear, I can try to post some. Our house is a disaster area because of renovations, so I may not be able to find everything

But seriously, since it takes less than $20 worth of parts to make a stereo set, I think everyone with a portable recorder should make a set simply as backup, stealth or sacrificial set.

Yeah if I do go for small I think I'll take ken's advice and contruct my own. Thanks dunder I didn't know capsules size correlates to amount of noise.

naw... don't do guitar anymore. Used mouth-harp samples and a Prophet5 emulation for the melodies.
