A couple of the barrel samples clipped pretty hard, but they actually sound nice. big rusty barrel.rar
Also samples various things which happen on a stove top. stovetop.rar
And some custom oscillators osc.rar

Do what you will with them and post some samples.
Entire song hosted at the auditorium which uses some of the samples by dunder

Thanks for the compliments kvr guys. I am going to do more sampling of that bucket when I get my matched pair rode nt1a.

I recon the rode mics will be a good asset to your recording environment (plus they have internal shock mounts on the capsules as well as external ones) plus low noise, I have a 1000 that I am happy with on certain tasks nice and sensitive

Yesterday I bought (though it won't be here for about a month) a custom mod by oade.com of a marantz 660 portable recorder. From the demo samples on the oade stie and some recomendations from nickspicks I am really exctied. It will enable me to make high quality low noise samples of pratically anything. So you guys should look forward to some nice samples in about a month.
Spe3D do you know when the 1000 was released?

Almost forgot, I tried out your samples on a random house number:Genetic_Junk wrote:Thanks for the compliments kvr guys. I am going to do more sampling of that bucket when I get my matched pair rode nt1a.

Looks like a good option for a reasonably small and portable 16 bit field recorder, you will be able to take it into crowded areas for street noises without drawing too much attention to yourself – what mics are you going to use with it?Genetic_Junk wrote: Yesterday I bought (though it won't be here for about a month) a custom mod by oade.com of a marantz 660 portable recorder. No idea as to the release date Genetic, I know its got the same guts as the tube mic, less the tubeGenetic_Junk wrote: Spe3D do you know when the 1000 was released?

bduffy my internet is so slow tonight, everyone else here is hoggin all the bandwidth. I am really happy you posted a sample, I'll download it tomorrow morning at home or at work, can't wait to listen to it.
Yeah 16 44 is going to be good enough for me.I was gong to get the 671 with the mod which is 24bit 96k, but I did some testing with my EMU 1820m at 24 96 and I didn't really notice a difference so I decided that the extra 400 bucks for the 24 96 wasn't worth itfor me.
To tell you the truth Spe3D, I wish I had some of those tiny mics which can be placed on the edge of sunglasses. Though I would appreciate if you could point me too some small mics that will input to XLR.
As of now I have some cheap (though I am very happy with the sound quality) MXL mics which are too noisy for quiet ambient stuff like the crackling grease. So mainly I'll be carrying around my mic stands (a couple pounds each) and the rode mics. I really don't care about being too conspicuous in a crowd, though I didn't plan on sampling too much stuff in a really crowded environment anyway.
Unfortunately the recorder about $770 with the best mod they do + the two mics about 400 bucks, has left my extra spending money at zero so unless I can find the mics on ebay for cheaper I'll be done buying this kind of stuff until I can save up again.
Thanks again everyone for checking these samples out.

That’s cool – bigger mics = better quality imo (particularly those mics) – though it would be great to have mini condensers that were noiseless (I found so far they are not and I end up going back to larger condensers anyway) – the smallest stereo mic I use for external stuff is the rode NT4 – but it’s a bugger to protect from any kind of knocks from stand movement, so it needs suspending.
Other than that the rode nt3's are a good choice for a smaller condenser due to the capsule being partially suspended internally (bit like the nt1’s in that respect).
However you don’t need to be lugging about two stands when you go out for location recording – you can get a stereo bar that will hold both mics and therefore only need the one stand – it is possible to pick up the bars pretty cheap.
Best regards,

Thanks for the interesting samples... can't have too many
For your new recorder - if you have basic soldering skills, there are a few ways you can make useable "tiny mics which can be placed on the edge of sunglasses" using $2 electret capsules you can find most places.
Some details on this page, including the use of phantom power from an XLR:
http://www.epanorama.net/circuits/micro ... ering.html
I've made several small mics from these electret capsules, for use with a Pro Walkman cassette recorder and a MD recorder, and they work disgustingly well for the money. My favourite use is to build them into walkman-type headphones, so you can do stealth binaural recording.

Thats the problem with small condensers... damned physical laws kick in and the smaller the capsule, the higher the noise, the better the freq responce (the lower the cost)Spe3D wrote:That’s cool – bigger mics = better quality imo (particularly those mics) – though it would be great to have mini condensers that were noiseless (I found so far they are not and I end up going back to larger condensers anyway) – the smallest stereo mic I use for external stuff is the rode NT4 – but it’s a bugger to protect from any kind of knocks from stand movement, so it needs suspending.
I always thought the trade-off of noise vs capsule size was about 1/2", and I dearly loved the Shoeps line of mics for their balance of noise vs f/r.
A friend of mine has the 'spec' mics which are basically a couple of audio tchnica capsoles embedded in the horns of sunglases. In a noisey street situation SNR shouldn't be a real issue.
I've poked elements out of either side of a baseball cap successfully (Sony ECM77)
and the Sennheiser MKE2 elements and Countryman B2s can be hidden just about everyplace, tho I'm not sure about sticking on up the rear wazoo.
Wind is the real concern when outside, at least where I live.
