scan IS annoying, but hey- now they can be used in SF...I'm willing to wait a second or two
The problem is, the default scan folder (which can't be changed) is C/ProgramFiles/Vstplugins. How useful! If I set it to ProgramFiles/Steinberg/Vstplgins it finds about 3 plugins . If I search ProgramFiles/Steinberg it does the same. If I search C/ProgramFiles it find practically anything with a .dll which is ridiculous. It also uses differnt plugin name detection so that for example the W1 limiter by BetaBugs will show up as Stereo Compressor. I also have been unable to start it on numerous occasions because it crashes during the plugin scan which happens ever time i start it up. I then have to search for the offending plugin but usually it is not the problem and I can later put it back and SF starts up fine. Also sometimes a new plugin will automatically show up and other times not. Which means I have to go through the whole scan process again and re set up my favourite plugins folder. And (for now) last but not least I want to turn off the automatic scan at start and have a scan for new plugins up but there is no such feature.

And I have emailed Sony about this and there response was to invite me to a user forum where we would discuss potential improvements that could be implemented free of charge. NOT. No response was their response.

SF8 works fine here. It's definetely not as fast as it was, and the VST handling is a bit stupid but its not bad enough for me to stop using it.

SF8 is OK here. Upgraded from V6. I really like the "Batch" converter, using it a lot...

Same here I guess but if I had the funds I'd ditch it for Wavelab in a heartbeat.

i wouldn't, I know my way around SF just enough to do whatever I need to do. Its not like its a host that I use all the time, I just use it occasionally when I need to fix, slice, or f**k something.

Untrue- it uses whatever's defined in your registry as your default VST folder. I can't remember which key it is at the moment.

SF lists my VST folder (E:/Steinberg/Vstplugins) as the default folder in the preferences.

On my systems it's HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\VST with a String Value for VSTPluginsPath. I would prefer that hosts ask for a location. Sometimes I forget to kill the registry key before installing new hosts or updates and it's crash city. I don't really mind having multiple folders for plugins as I have a fairly specific list of what I want available where. It's sort of late in the game to make the default folder a dummy (empty) location here.

I'll look into this but if you are right then, I think I love you.
