I use SX3, (legit version so calm down at the back there) and it's featureset is a million miles from Energy XT. Totally different beasts. Best bet for you is the aforementioned CM Muzys. Great little host, for a fiver. What more dya want

yes, you're absolutely right about this - SX just can't keep up with eXT regarding many features :-D
(I corrected your grammar b.t.w. - and no: you don't have to thank me for that)

hm... - perhaps disk-streaming, realtime-monitoring, more than eight channels, the ability to load more than five instruments - things like that...

(will I ever see you make a smart post? :?)

Jens, I was going to bust you right now for your simple "no" in the previous page, but the post above has redeemed you... that was good, perhaps there's still hope for your little soul :hihi:
The mind boggles.

:hihi:

I (just like many others) came from Tracktion to eXT so you can't just say 'Tracktion as the main sequencer' (assume I know both of them better than you ;-))

I could handle using free VSTs as there are a lot of them, but I couldn't handle using a super shitty host. Is there a decent free one out there?
Jimmymus,

This is your very best bet. It's free, VST(i), and multitracks and does midi. I've tried it and it works pretty well. Be patient and give yourself a little bit of time to figure it out. It's actually pretty good. AND if you want to upgrade to the current version, it's only like $10.

I tried Frieve too, and it has potential, but it's still buggy. DeltaSP seems pretty solid. The link is to the last freeware version -- the one I tried out. This should work for you.

P.S. If you are looking for something really simple and easy to use, try VstSeq. I've talked to the developer, and he plans to expand it to work as a full host, rather than a "two measure" host. It's good on CPU too. :-)

Exactly my point... eXT is exhuberant, but Tracktion simply FLOWS... no need to know it deeply, everything's right there. IMNSHO T2 and eXT compliment each other so well that they should sell them as a bundle. Holding my breath for T3 though, I don't fully trust Mackie to do well to the ideal.

Or at least that's what I think that I think. :)

regarding sequencing it can't keep up with eXT yet by a few miles, but it has got a plugin-builder and an audio-editor integrated and is developing just as fast as eXT so it's gonna be the next big thing - thus you're spot on... :-D

hm... see... - I'm often producing a few songs a week (or better: 'starting to produce') so I need to work fast and the sequencer has to have an uncluttered workflow and IMO eXT pisses all over Tracktion in that regard and I can give you several reasons why this is so but it would fill pages and I had to waste at least hours if not days discussing with Greg (Lunch Money) :hihi:...

see e.g. this thread for example:

http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=122557

it also shows one of the many things eXT can do but SX can't...

Yes, eXT is great. No question about it. However, I was looking for a "Free" resource for him. The link I posted was to the last "Freeware" version. I honestly don't think there is anything else out there in Freeware that does what this does and has a piano roll editor (sorry all of you tracker fans.) :-) That was my only point.

Jens: actually Í've read quite a few posts on Tracktion and other topics by Greg (Lunch Money), I remember his name because I associate him to the big Betabugs logo in his signature (Greg, if you read this... you guys kick ass!) :tu:
And hey, you know what? A "jens/eXT-vs-Greg/T2 End-All-And-Be-All Kickfest" thread would actually be quite a funny and enlightening read, particularly for people like the OP here or myself. It's actually what the beginners forum needs! Come on, you know you want it... :D
The mind boggles.

 we've been there a few times before (but Greg and me are good friends so it's all just a bit of sports) :-D
