Free host?

I'm using a warez version of Cubase SX 3 and I know it pretty well. But I do tend to steal *way* too much software. I'm thinking I could maybe do a cleansing of sorts and switch to free software. But my first problem is the host! I could handle using free VSTs as there are a lot of them, but I couldn't handle using a super shitty host. Is there a decent free one out there?

OK MOTHERFUCKERS DONT EVEN START BEATING DOWN ON HIM!

(have to say that or our warez police, WilliamK and all them will explode. Actaully, they will anyway).

I don't know of any decent hosts for free offhand, unfortunately, and I don't think there is one. Theres energyXT for $50, which is modular but can do everything Cubase can, pretty much (although sometimes not as quickly). Theres Tunafish for $30, although I haven't tried that.

I suggest looking through this list, maybe thers something that suits you: http://www.kvraudio.com/get.php?mode=re ... =2&rpp=100

I'm not sure about a free host, but if you can spare fifty bucks, I recommend EnergyXT. It's got all the features you'll probably need and then some.

You can't deny that our warez police won't even read past "I'm using a warez version of Cubase SX3". I mean, come on, at least one certain member of our resident "warez police" has cut off contact to FAMILY MEMBERS because of this. How f**king RIDICULOUS can you get?

Sheesh. If somebody's using warez I tell them they should buy it if they use it alot. I don't cut off all contact with them.

you should - it even comes with it's own very powerful sampler (which can load Soundfonts) and V" will be released soon which will include (amongst several other new features/engancements) a powerful synth and several fx. And if you register now you'll get XT2 for free. That means you can buy a whole virtual studio for 40€ :D

Many of us used much more expensive sequencers before we converted to eXT because of its quality...

I wouldn't have any friends... (apart from kvr-members of course)

Post

alright...very simple...

you can use as "main vst-host" :

1. another vote for energyXT (not free, affordable)
2. smaller version of fl studio (not free, affordable)
3. CM muzys great and almost free (magware)
4. frieve music studio producer 1.20e (FREE)
5. use kristal+VST.host+legree (=free)
6. brambos tunafish (not free, affordable)
7.skale tracker (free)

-

you can use additional non-vst hosts(free):

1. audacity
2. dllusion drumstation
3. dllusion rubberduck
4. graoumf tracker
5. gungirl sequencer
6. hydrogen - advanced drum machine
7. mixere
8. mixxx
9. ORdrumbox
10.pinkninja
11.psycle
12.quickaudio
13.soundplant
14.syntrax
15.tiny midi sequencer
16.ultrastar
17.wavethunder
18.caotica2
19.frinika
20.mobius
21.reaper
22.rebirth

so, there are no excuses :D

Either EnergyXT (50 bucks) or a second hand copy of Tracktion (I've seen them go for 70 bucks in the buy&sell forum here at kvr). Ideally both, Tracktion as the main sequencer and EXT chameleonically filling up all the holes (and then some). You just won't look back to Cubase or similar.
With that, audacity as audio editor, and the wealth of good free/cheap vst goodness available and continuously in development, you are set for ages. Well, at least I'll be set for ages when I have the funds for MY copy of Tracktion :D

Go ahead, test the demos... they are free, and really eye-opening.

Cheers!

JJ.
The mind boggles.
