Good point and i agree totally, i've been working on some concept graphics for the UI specifically to improve in this area and at the same time maintain the original "look", i can only forward this suggestion though... no guarantees it will be implementedlooneytunes wrote:Hi Peter,
4.) The visual legend is very small (eg ~ 9pt) and hard to read. I know that there is a high emphasis on recreating the look of the original, but you are sacrificing readability/usability.

BTW whats the general opinion on the "grainy photo" look ?

Hi Reuben,
Overall, the color scheme is relatively low-contrast (good: easier on the eyes), and attracts the right amount of attention to the functional blocks of parameters (as did the original).
A bit higher contrast differences, especially around the print that is 'very small fonts' (eg the aftertouch controls) might help alleviate some of the readability.
For my preferences, the UI need not be photo-realistic, general color matching is good. Something should help the smaller font names become more readable though.

Also there is quite a lot of lens blur in some places making it harder to read some stuff.
I like the fact that the UI is built from photographic elements but this has the downside (as mentioned)of grain and lens blur.
BTW i am a CG artist, pretty fussy about aesthetics as a consequence
Oh and i would hope Peter see's this as a kind offer of help, not trying to take over developement or anything
Regards

bigger problem IMO is the text around the ARP area "sync to song tempo" etc, this will be harder to improve
[/quote]
Actually no, its all going very well, i would love to show what i've done with this UI...
Just finishing up my presentation then i'll be sending it off to Peter

Seriously Reubs, I would NOT advertise this fact. I couldn't tell, I thought it was just clever usage of colors/fonts. I think actually taking a PHOTO of an OB-X and basing the OP-X on that is just BEGGING for a lawsuit! I would HATE to see you guys shut down by a bunch of suits.Reubs wrote: I like the fact that the UI is built from photographic elements but this has the downside (as mentioned)of grain and lens blur.
Loving this synth, by the way

is there a way to have a mono patch retrigger a held note after a second note has been played and then released?

listen to this mates - I tried to copy some classic ob-x sounds from past hits using the op-x vst this morning:
Van Halen - Jump! (was not the OB-X but the OB-Xa in fact):
http://www.sonicprojects.ch/obx/songs/vanhalen_jump.mp3
Barclay James Harvest - Echoes and Shadows
http://www.sonicprojects.ch/obx/songs/b ... hadows.mp3
Barclay James Harvest - Waiting On The Borderline
http://www.sonicprojects.ch/obx/songs/b ... erline.mp3
Barclay James Harvest - I'm like a train - Solo 2
http://www.sonicprojects.ch/obx/songs/b ... nsolo2.mp3
Barclay James Harvest - I'm like a train - Solo 1
http://www.sonicprojects.ch/obx/songs/b ... nsolo1.mp3
Barclay James Harvest - Life is for Living
http://www.sonicprojects.ch/obx/songs/b ... living.mp3
Rush - Tom Sawyer
http://www.sonicprojects.ch/obx/songs/r ... sawyer.mp3
The old Barclay record "Turn of the Tide" is an album on which the OB-X was used almoust ALL THE TIME - that's one of the reasons this record sounds that great imho!
I will soon privide the soundpatches on the user area of the OP-X

Great stuff Peter! Especially those bjh leads. Fabulous.
Actually, though, I could have done without that first one. In Nashville at the old "Music Man" store there used to be a sign hung over the OB-Xa that read: "$50 fine for playing Jump. $100 fine for playing it wrong."

This is going to seem like a dumb question but, I have download the "Eighties single patches and banks".. but now how do I get them into the Receptor. I tried putting them in "Drop Installers Here", but when I go into Setup nothing shows up... Help Please?
Also, When I installed OP-X on the Receptor it installed as "Container" within SonicProjects. This is very annoying - it being called "Container" instead of OP-X.
