Each and every real amp, stomp box, VST amp sim, or whatever is unique. Unique means there is nothing like it. And what appeals to one may put off others, all people have a taste of their own.

So you have found a setup (in particular: a mad monkey) that works for you. Good for you, and thanks for sharing!

Have you ever tried Revalver from Alien Connections? I got a free copy along SONAR 5, and lately a NFR copy from those guys. And I must say, it does sound pretty good.

I've always been pretty happy by using a REAL '83 Mesa Boogie Mk IIC with a REAL SM57, and having the sound come out of REAL Celestions and REAL EV's.

Am I out of control here?

If you compare the sound that comes up at ya from an amplifier, with the sound of a track through monitors, you're going to have problems. You've got to compare two recorded tracks, so you're comparing apples with apples. That'll get you closer. I say this to almost everyone who complains that a digital piano or sampler can't compare with a real piano, and quite often I hear "...hmm, yeah I suppose so."

Are you after extreme distortion, or mellower, subtler stuff? A few of my plugins use the sigmoid function for overdrive / warmth / compression, you can also drive it hard, but you never totally lose all the detail that a more extreme distortion destroys.

AT2 is the best software sim available today.
I am very happy with it so I guess I don't need to "F#ck off".

It's funny, everybody likes the Simulanalog plug but they refuse to give AT2 a chance.
Did you know AT2 grew out of the Simulanalog project and was coded by the same guy.

ReValver II is very promising especially for all the metal heads.

I also recently acquired a SansAmp PSA-1.
It's an amazing tool, highly recommended.

That's about it.
I wasn't impressed by anything else, I tried them all GTR, GR2 all the PODs VOX and Vamps.

I don't understand why everyone is crazy about ReValver; I've tried the mkII beta and it stinks, royally. Everything sounds like it's in a tin can.

AT2 costs 400 dollars and sounds good. Simuanalog costs 0 dollars and sounds good. That's why everybody likes Simuanalog.

Oh, and IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A SYNCROSOFT USB KEY YOU CAN NOT RUN THE AMPLITUBE 2 DEMO.

did anyone mention FreeAmp SE? man u can even do a gary numan with that thing (run ur synths thru the amp) and it will sound pretty guitarish

Seriously FreeAmp SE 1.5 is great - and the new v2 soon to be released has a great grymmjack ui, some new stomp effects, and an inbuilt guitar synth! cant wait

Yeah plus those high gain mp3 examples on the amplitube website sound like dookie. To me, anyway. Not anywhere NEAR what I can do with simulanalog. That's the main reason I've not bothered with it. That and I already have GR2. One expensive toy that I rarely use is enough for me.

I think I'll sit out the next few upgrades on all the sims. I'll be in the market for Amplitube 5. Unless they can really blow me away with some samples between now and then.

The voxengo boogex sounds fairly good for a free sim.

Then again, I'm currently messing around with a $99 valve junior tube head. A couple decent tubes, a solder here and there and you're styling.

Software has NEVER ACHIEVED Decent Guitar Distortion. Nope.
