Moving all files in the plugin folder elsewhere and back again indeed helped. I didn't find any disturbing one; moving them was all that was needed, apparently.

So, now I can start up Cubase normally again.

But, there still a whole bunch of plugs that won't load. They're not available in Cubase, while they all are in the correct folders. Maybe still an xml problem?

In the folder wherever you installed Cubase, there is an .exe called Cubase application folder.exe Click that, and it will bring you to the folder that holds the .xml files

Thank you; I found it. I had to do some additional fiddling; I had to remove and place the Native Instruments folder back again first, and then the rest of the VST-folder.

But it seems to work fine now.
