Thanks for the info, I will see if I have the time to investigate Energy to see how it would help me.MaxJoy wrote:You have to make your six-instrument-setup by hand. Simply insert one instance and then clone it 5 times. I use an external midi foot control to switch presets and to tweak parameters, this is much more comfortable for guitarists than mousing around. Energy lets you asign your midi cc messages to any synth knob. I would do this before the cloning, then you need to do this only once.
Good luck. And don't forget to plug your e-guitar into the computer, too, there are some very interesting vsts waiting for you
.
Hehe I already plug my E-guitar in my puter, but for now I prefer the sound of my external gear.

Mono Mode. Here's what the impOSCar manual says:krraqk wrote:Thanks for the info, where is that midi guitar mode located, I dont remember to see it.guitarzan wrote:GForce impOSCar has a MIDI guitar mode, and that's VST.
For a hardware synth I know that the Oberheim Matrix 6 has a guitar mode.
"The impOSCar has a feature specifically designed for MIDI Guitar players. In Mono Mode the impOSCar behaves as if it were 16 mono synths in parallel, with seperate note and bend control response for each MIDI channel. Make sure your sequencer track is set to receive on "all" MIDI channels and both your MIDI guitar and the impOSCar are set to a pitchbend range of 12."

Halion is pretty neat as you can assign the same instance to more than 1 channel, but you still need to assign 6 channels, and no way to emulate legato or anything sexy.
But at least you don't need to adjust each patch.
Independence allows to re-trigger the same note (same channel) but it may turn off the wrong one.
Future version could allow to use per string advance legato, even in streaming mode, using CC84 (portamento control).
With K2, it's pretty bad, it triggers the second note, but turns off the first one.
But I made a script that deals with that, so I can use a single channel and the script will turn off the correct note ( the script keeps string info). I can even have per string legato (currently just skipping the start of the sample) when using hammer on or pull offs. Too bad you can't use sample offset with dfd

there is a new axon advertised in sound on sound this month. It reckons it solves all timing issues. I wonder how good it is? anyone tried?
I would of thought Tracktion and Racks (modular routing inside of Tracktion) could sort out your requirments, though I'm no expert but perhaps someone else might shed some light on the racks option.

The GI 20 is a guitar midi interface with no sound module. The GR 20 (which I have) has hundreds of patches built-in, of varying quality but some are quite usable. It is designed mostly for live use, but has midi in and out, so you can use it to control outboard modules and VSTi's. The GR 33 is similar, but more tweakable. The GK-3 pickup is the same for all of them. It is like 6 tiny mini-humbuckers that you install under the strings near the bridge. Installation is a bit "fiddly" as the Brits say, but doable.
I haven't played anything but the GR 20 with the GK-3 pickup, but I think they all track about the same. Some people say that the RMC pickups on the Brian Moore and Godin guitars track better. These are piezo-based, I think, but they work with the Roland synths.
I think the Roland stuff tracks ok, but I am no shredder. When I used it live I was playing spacey pads, strings, and horn parts and I wasn't playing real fast. Sometimes it was frustrating with a pad when the sound would sustain for a while and then abruptly cut off. You learn to anticipate that and retrigger it before it happens. In general you have to rethink your playing and play clean. Maybe with the Axon or with the RMC you can get away with playing more like you usually do, but I think you would still have to make some adjustments. At the very least, lines that sound cool on a guitar sometimes sound really stupid when you sound like a clarinet or a trumpet. That's my experience anyway.

Axon uses a neural network detection system based in the transients of the signal so it don't need to wait for a cycle or 1.5 cycles like other traditional systems.

I suppose its the same as mine, AX100 mark2. Axon is now owned by Terratec. Now the price is affordable, around 450€.Mr. Tingle wrote:there is a new axon advertised in sound on sound this month. It reckons it solves all timing issues. I wonder how good it is? anyone tried?

About Tracktion, I don't know for sure, but I think there is not a host that would do what the "midiguitar Vsti" I explained in the first post would do.

I can confirm that you can assign a different sound in Wusik to each string using the the GR-20. Two of them will be using the wav sequencers, which creates some weird effects. I assigned Manystation cellos to the first three strings with a pizzacato sound on the second, a flute on the fourth, and wave sequencers with helicopter type sounds on the last two. Strumming chords creates some unexpected and interesting musical results. It works.

Well, I should have said that it works in Reaper. In FL Studio there doesn't seem to be a way to monitor separate channels.

Hey all,
I recently acquired a Roland GR20, with GK3 pickup and I was wondering if it was par for the course to have shady tracking when using as a midi controller. The presets work well and it's very playable, but when it comes to triggering VSTs and samples, once in every 2 riffs a wrong note will be played. Is there any way to improve this?
Cheers, Nix
Edit: Sorry Roland, tuning works wonders

Someone MUST hate MIDI guitars, because I posted a contest on this very same board to send me some guitar MIDI so I could use it to make sure my upcoming synth supports MONO mode on multiple channels, and now I can't find the post!!?!?!?
Still searching, maybe I'll locate it....
