GSnap will respond to MIDI as well - so bypass it's internal math for pitch correction and slam your voice fast-and-hard right onto the C#.. sound like Cher!!1
I've recorded over 400 answering machines - the Best Of recordings are available for use and can be found here:

Hmmm...thanks, _oswald! I didn't know that.

I'll give it a try this weekend. My brain knows what note I want to hit...but my voice too often doesn't, sometimes....Just telling GSnap what note to choose might be a big improvement.

The only problem I see with Magix's Music Studio Deluxe is that Midi is still handled with a seperate application, and so its not all integrated like Samplitude is.. It has features that I wish were included with Samplitude SE like track freezing and the elastic plug you were talking about, but the midi being handled through a seperate app is not so good.. I have started using more and more midi with my recordings lately..

Perhaps Cakewalk will include track freezing & v-vocal in Sonar Home Studio 5 after Sonar 6 Producer is released.. That would make me look more in that direction..

Waitaminnit... isn't it in the manual? ;) ;)

GSnap will also respond to being in a key (which I'm sure you saw), so if you can reverse-engineer what key you're in, at least automatic mode won't try to correct you monochromatically. Then you just dial down the sensitivity a bit.

Thanks, guys!

*sigh* The learning curve seems infinite sometimes.....And I'm such a plug-in slut that I never seem to get totally on top of it...

This is the only freeware of its kind, so definitely worth learning.

If you're a Sonar 5 owner, you get the Roland V-Vocal with it for free, which isn't realtime but its integrated into Sonar and works much, much better than GSnap or Autotune or whatever - not only can it change pitch, but also dynamics and timing, and you can set it to shift formants, and all sorts of neat wizardry that can make anybody into an opera singer ... or Cher.
i was suprised how bad vvocals time stretc was, seriously, even in sonar 5.2..the smallest change = huge artefacts
There are always artifacts but V-Vocal isn't that bad about them at all. Did you remember to mute or delete the original audio clip under the V-Vocal clip? Its a common error that makes it sound phasey and weird.
