Right... But what happens if you take a choir instrument set to "Aaaaaahhhh" sound (full of harmonics) and run that through a simple vocoder plugin, so you have control over the formants using your own voice?

Wasn't there a doubler/trippler tool like Antares which was fairly cheap but discontinued (till the trippler comes out, which didn't happen in over one year now).

Anyone got that link at hand?

Then again there's always Melodyne, but that's not realtime.

It would work even better if you layered aah, eeh, iih, ooh, etc. The vocoder would suppress all the unrequired vowel formants, and those that remained would be... more natural? If you layered a tiny bit of very high hiss, it might help the esses to sound natural too.
