I will check out the demo, soon. :)

It is kind of an expensive gear emulated, so it is probably
more than worth it's price, but I am not so fond of the high
cpu usage. Even though the SE version is probably okay to use in mixing
and the other version in Wavelab. :ud:

funny thing.... :hihi:
But from the demo video it looks very good.
Looks like U-audio has to come up with a more powerful UAD1 card. 1 plugin per card? That's not acceptable!!!
I have not tried it yet, but I'm debating: Should I get the Neve EQ or the Compressor? In my mixing I do use a buss compressor in form of Magneto, but Neve should work better, the SE version that is. I would love Neve EQ as well, but I already have all the other UAD1 EQs. I love Pultecs!!!

So can anybody help me with my decision?

i've been testing it and it to me it s not doing anything that i can't already do with my stock logic plugs.(logic)
i do love my uad card and the rest of the plugs they have (most of them)
i think its all hype. cool lookin effect thats mediocre. imho

i've been playin with this thing for 10 days!!! and nothin. (usually it takes far less time for something good to happen.)

maybe its my age but they nailed the 33609 sound.

theyve just released a 4.4.1 update that cuts down on how much dsp the 33609SE uses.

Phew, I already started to feel like a lonesome loony, because it was the same over here. I kept trying to use it for days and just didn't get anything special. Most of the time I felt like "is this thing doing anything at all?".

Though I *can* second the "glueing together" effect. But to me this whole thing was far to subtle. Anytime I switched to the Fairchild afterwards I had much better results to my taste.

So maybe it comes down to the kind of material you process. Maybe this thing is for recordings of symphonic qualities, not electronic music...?

I demoed it, and found myself very impressed. It works much better for me than all the other compressor emulations.

I also demoed the Neve EQ, and I bought that one; I had more use for it, and can't spend the world on plugs at this point.

I found the Neve 33609 to be the greatest compressor since voxengo marquis here in virtual world (that i've tried atleast), and i find it to have characteristics other compressors don't have, and when i try to copy aspects of it's character with another compressor something always is'nt right about the overall sound. I don't think it's that easy to copy, there's a reason the 33609 eats up almost a whole card, there are many qualities to it's overall character, even the SE version sounds different and it copies much of the 33609 full version character.

The 33609 is now one of my favorites, i like it's thick and heavy sound, and the way it glues things together. It truly is a great sounding 'one of a kind' compressor to me.Of all the compressors i've tried it really stands out and is VERY different. I love it more then fairchild and the rest of the uad compressors, and it arguably has more character then any virtual comp out here i've heard, but because it's so strong i understand why some don't like it, it really signs its name on a track, and it clearly is'nt for alot of material.

I own 1001 compressor plugins... do not need the 1002nd.

Hey UAD its time for some weird NEW fx

I only have 1 card so in that respect it's not worth it for me as it stands, as I need the DSP I have for my bread 'n butter UAD plugs.

However if I had another card I'd happily dedicate it to the new Neve.
The asking price of the plug & it's capabilitiy combined with that of another card is worth it IMHO but I'm skint right now unfortunately!

I just bought a Tascam DM3200, a Universal Audio 6176, an Expresscard Magma Chassis, an ASUS W2Jc, a Maton Mastersound 503, a pair of KRK II V6's, a Fender HotRod Deville Stereo Combo, a Vox AC30, $2000 worth of cabling, $2000 worth of Acoustic Treatment & 12 or so microphones among other things!

Sorry for the skite but I'm feeling rather happy for myself right now - new gear rules!

If you find yourself in need of that sound but can't spend the DSP/Cash you can get a very similar sound from two 1176LN + EQ. It take like nothing from the card and delivers as close a sound anyone would accept. Try it out, use the first 1176 high input, adjust output and reduction to taste, throw in the EQ here and lower some of the high frequencies, put in the second 1176 and tweak, and your home. Some might not now about the Ctrl click feature on the 1176, ctrl click on a ratio button and KAZAM! it's a hard-driven monster.
My penny of thought.

That's a good tip; I'll try that.
I like the plug so much, I would dedicate a whole card for it. But then I'd have to buy an extra UAD card. That, plus the plug, would cost some serious amount of money for having a single compressor plug.
Does anyone know if it is possible to buy just an extra dsp card, without having to buy the whole set of plugs again I already own for my current UAD card?

Yes. I'm planning on doing that so I can run this and some other new UAD plug-ins.

I bought the 33609 the day it was released and put it in my "first things to go to" inventory and couldn't be happier. Its an outstanding achievement, the kind that makes UAD the best at what they do, which is to allow us to use our computers to pretend we actually got our paws on one of the holy grail (and usually over-hyped) outboard devices that our Parents favorite Rock band used to use back in the olden days when all they had was clunky, noisy heat-generating equipment that they couldn't wait to get rid of in order to make room for some of that exciting new di-jit-tal stuff, like piano-key Betamax VCRS that recorded 2! tracks of Di-jit-tal audio using a black-box thingie from Sony...

You know, I guess compressors are like anything else, a matter of one's choice. I love the 33609 and the LA2A UAD plugs but for the life of me, cannot figure why everyone slobbers over the Fairchild. I know its heresy and I'm marching in the clueless parade, but I have never been able to get the Fairchild to do anything nice to my tracks... I guess I prefer a scalpel to a sledgehammer.

Cool, I hoped so. How does it work, and what does it cost?
