Cool but no more compressors for me.
Here are the video demos.

doesnt mcdsp have a 33609 emulation with their compressor bank? Ah RTAS......not welcome here...If someone has them both, can you compare for us please?

I love it. I think it's the best compressor UA has now. Very flexible, smooth sound, both colorer and transparent, can use some extreme settings with little problems, and MOST importantly it REALLY glues things together in a way that's better then all software compressors i've heard. This is only my first impression for i've only been demoing it for a short time, But i am loving it and starting to see it as a must have. UA has put on their clown suits.

It beats the SSL bus comp for sure, I think I'll buy it if I still like it after the demo

Silly question - I use Cubase SX2 - how do you get the waveforms to reflect the amount of compression, as it does in the video?

I would give the Neve Comp a try, but the UAD meter says that my demotime has expired
I must wait for a response of the UA customer-support.

I've read alot of your posts in the past and believe we have similar taste on alot of products out here. I believe you'll love this new Neve compressor, it really is easy to get the commercial sound that alot of us hear on many of our favorite records. The smoothness and the glueing it does is worth killing for4damind wrote:I would give the Neve Comp a try, but the UAD meter says that my demotime has expired![]()

I've got some experience with the real unit. It's a very nice compressor, that's for sure. It can be rather 'brutal' sounding sometimes and that's just fine for a drum bus or modern rock vocals. If the UA even remotely captured the original units vibe (which I'm sure they did! Even quite closely!) I can not do anything else than very highly recommend it!

Looks like U-audio has to come up with a more powerful UAD1 card. 1 plugin per card? That's not acceptable!!!hifiboom wrote:but it eats a complete card...

But from the demo video it looks very good.
I have not tried it yet, but I'm debating: Should I get the Neve EQ or the Compressor? In my mixing I do use a buss compressor in form of Magneto, but Neve should work better, the SE version that is. I would love Neve EQ as well, but I already have all the other UAD1 EQs. I love Pultecs!!!
So can anybody help me with my decision?

I'd go for the compressor for sure.. but then again, I'm a compressor junkie!

I'm not in the least surprised.hifiboom wrote:but it eats a complete card...

The 33609 is a rather thorough "D bridge" compressor design. The topology of this particular Neve unit would introduce *alot* of very interdependant nonlinearities in it's processing path. My own DSP forays into modelling proper diode bridge dynamics processor designs pretty much resolved the absolute necessity of up sampling the entire audio path in order to properly represent these complex nonlinear interactivities in an accurate fashion.
If UAD's goal was the "elitist" recreation of this type of compressor topology, it would be my guess that they would have soon discovered this as well. Just ignoring the intricities involved in recreating accurate analog circuit responses for the moment...any time you are cornered with upsampling in order to maintain your "point to point" modelling accuracy, your DSP overhead is going to skyrocket. Then there is the actual quality of the SRC itself. A *good* realtime SRC implementation is not cheap in terms of DSP cycles.
Actually, if UAD has managed to get an accurate model of the Neve 33609 diode bridge topology using "just" one card, then my hat is surely off to them...this, I would think, is rather more of an accomplishment than anything else. In terms of DSP, accurately modelling the topology of a clunky old LA-2A would be absolute child's play compared to accomplishing the same of Neve's D bridge signal path.

Something that often gets lost in these "it eats too much dsp" threads its that they do give you a 33609SE (not synthedit) which uses much much less dsp. If you compare them in phase cancellation i think youll be impressed.
the 33609 full version of course will satisfy the ultra purists. I kinda blame myself because 4 years ago i begged them to do models that would take up an entire card with the physics and sure enough they did.
but the last couple "se" versions have been pretty impressive in how close they are.
