OK then, is there any difference between installing bootcamp first, then parallel, or doing it the other way around ?
And, how do I get my hands on bootcamp without installing Leopard ?
(sorry now I'm spamming my own forum :))

Very good question!, install windows via bootcamp first..and here's the really important bit! - activate the Windows install from WITHIN Parallels (you can set Parallels to use your bootcamp partition as a virtual machine very easily). Otherwise you'll find you have to activate Windows twice due to the virtualization of Parallels.

As for Bootcamp, the last Tiger iteration of Bootcamp was 1.4 which Apple, in a bid of course to force users to Leopard and Bootcamp v2, have stupidly removed from their site for download..of course there's quite a few copies floating out there in torrent land (you are a legitimate 10.4 owner so it was absurd of them to make it unavailable)..check the PM from me..I'll make it nice and easy for you.

Oooh, flamebait!! And I took it.

First: "dimwits"?

and also...

The above statement makes almost no sense when used for comparison of two distinct situations. "The preferred platform of many professionals"? So what. Windows is "the preferred platform of professionals" too. "Many", I may add. So that says absolutely nothing. "Many professionals" use Mac and "many" use PC. What are you trying to say?

Moreover (this sounds like an essay) I like to pay for the stuff I use and I use a PC. I'm a dentist for god's sake and I make music for fun but I still pay for the stuff I use. So, PC-based amateur who still pays for his plugs? It seems that it's a conscience thing, not a heavenly trait bestowed upon someone by Steve Jobs and co. :hihi:

Sorry, couldn't resist. I detest platform wars but it seems like common sense does not apply to these threads.

[edit: possibly flame-baiting paragraph removed, I wouldn't like to turn smthing like this into another platform war)

Yes but mostly they're accountants, not professional muso's or producers...sorry if that hurts the precious feelings, but it's a fact. I like XP and Vista a lot, and use both platforms everyday...but it's just the way it is.

Let's try 'a majority' instead...the meaning was clear enough.

Only the blindest of the blind would be unaware that due to the size of the markets (and before you start, that is still completely consistent with what im saying above) there's a massive windows audio warez scene...the mac one pales in comparison.

NP, now that's cleared up (as if) we can both go to sleep again...

 @ you hurt my feelings. You're a cool guy. :D Still, I'd like to see numbers. Europe and US. Percentage of pro musicians using PCs and Macs. Then you can go to sleep*. :hihi: :D

'Majority' is much better. Again, numbers.

Finally, the 'size of the markets' thing was the paragraph I removed because I supposed would be too inflammatory. Glad you understand why there's not a big warez scene for Macs and for [probably] understanding that if any Mac users were able to crack programs and release them to other Mac users, piracy would be just as widespread (in a percentile sense) to Macs.

*not really, go to sleep whenever you feel like it. :hihi: :D

Also, ignore me. I'm pissed off at myself for even getting into this "debate".

However, you have to admit that these threads finally get so surreal and profanity-laden that for pure Monty Python-esque entertaintment value they remain unmatched. Plus, both PC and Mac users can view them (of course viewing them on Safari adds some intangible professional dimension to the flame-war :D ).

Oh no, im exposed! I'm not using some scientifically collated research!..just the plain old personal experience of twenty years pretty much making a living recording in bands then working in commercial studios (and no i dont imagine thats necessarily any more valid than anyone else's view, but seems a reasonable experience to make an informed conclusion)..and no I don't pretend that is definitive either, but it certainly seems outstandingly true that macs are really quite dominant in both the graphic design and music businesses. The only time it was any different was earlier on when Atari's and Amiga's were more prevalent.

I'm no mac fanboy, im just as happy in XP or Vista (well vista actually, lets face it, xp does look like a dogs ass without a skin or two on it)...I use both and its just apples and oranges, but i dont see the point in pretending one platform is not clearly more dominant in one arts industry..

You're right, man. Sorry! Not gonna happen again (well, it is gonna happen again but I'm not going to be the cause of it :hihi: )

Post

....to give you a website where you might want to watch a video and discuss elsewhere, here you go people :D

please discuss elsewhere. You can find hundreds of threads with all possible opinions nearly everywhere..

And hi Tristeza :). Bigtick products are nice, aren't they? (In Germany, to be frank, I wished Rhino2 was 1/10 as popular as macs are amongst our snobs. Oh no, that was again about the discussion - so let's end with I WISH PEOPLE WOULD TALK MORE ABOUT RHINO2 AS ABOUT THAT MACS WERE BETTER FOR "PRO" MUSICIANS).

Ah, again. i give up. (Personally I find those discussions VERY useful, but just to stop this "my (next word might differ from what I wanted to say due to readers might be under 4 years old-rule :hihi:) nose is bigger than yours" debates. This forum is about music, not about hype)

cheers all.
