i'm looking for a similar bass sound, it's that zippy bassline trentemoller uses a lot(also in a lot of electro-house songs). it slides around a bit with portamento and chops like the goa bassline. here's my dilemna though - i like to play my basslines on the keyboard but i know it needs a dedicated bass sequencer to pull the sound off. anyone have any ideas for me?

They are all do the bass with VB-1.

Strange no one has mentioned any of the TB-303 emulations.
Audiorealism Bassline 2 or Phoscyon will very likely be everything you're looking for.
Then there's Hydra and the KarmaFX synth which will give you some more possibilities.
But most basslines are created with one of those TB-303 emulations, with a Saw waveform, env is set all the way and decay very short for that nice sawy bass sound.
VB1 is also nice, but won't give you that true saw sound.
After that I reccomend to put Quadrafuzz over the bass and some EQ and there's you're Goa/Psytrance bass.
And for best results make sure, you're bass sound is in the same key as your kick.
This will give you that nice rolling sound, if not you're bassline will sound disrupted everytime the kick comes in.

As far as i know the wave should be triangle - not sawtooth.

It's Saw, ask any Psy producer and he'll tell you it's saw.

@Paul_7285: Instead of installing 30 new synthesizers, as has been recommended :hihi: , or bothering with a virus, why don't you post the following:

1. A list of the synthesizers you currently own (software and hardware)

2. An exact mp3 example of the bass sound you would like to emulate.

And I'll have the Pro-Sounds guys take a shot at it ;) That'll save you some money and time.

ToTc,

When you get round to producing a sound set for Predator, any chance of you including something resembling the Stratosfear preset from Albino 3?

Just thought I would ask, like.

Sure, why not! :D I'm working on Predator presets on the side, slowly but surely. Only have 3 so far, but they're good...not of the "stratosfear" brand though, very heavy stuff...I'll have to throw in some softer sounds as well. :)

ToTc,

Good man. I am nothing but a big softie. :D

Look forward to hearing the products of your labor, both heavy and soft. Be sure to let us know when the Predator presets are up and running.

Will do. :)

For now, there's a Hastily produced mp3 of 30-some-odd sounds from the version 3 leads and keys bank...you can listen to it and comment on sounds HERE

[edit]that mp3 is for the albion presets by the way, not the predator ones[edit]

ToTc,

Just listened to your Albino sounds and found them to be a highly eclectic and polished set. I particularly liked that brass sound.

If your Predator presets approach those you have created for Albino3, Predator users are in for a real treat. Can't wait.

 Thanx Knype! :D hehe, so far the brass sound is everyone's favorite.

Do sample it and use in sampler or do you just use virus? I have seen some peole recommend to always sample bass sounds when doing goa or psy.
Yeah, psy bass is a really simple sound, a sawtooth (from a 'not' free running osc) and a enveloped LP filter + eq. Now, what really matters is *what* sawtooth filter and envelope you are using (and also the phase offset for the sawtooth). In order to have a good control over these things, a sampler like kontakt 2 is a really nice choice...

Hello Paul,
I've made a Goa tune or two over the years so you may be interested in the bassline tutorial on my site here:

http://www.cosmosis.co.uk/cms/index.php ... &Itemid=40

If you check the other articles in that section you'll find other relevant stuff on making Psy Trance ( bass slides, percussion programming etc.)

If you have Albino 2 or a Virus you can download some free psy-trance bass patches from my site here:

http://www.cosmosis.co.uk/cms/index.php ... &Itemid=48

If I were you, I would open them up and reverse engineer them so you can figure out how they were made. It will be a lot better for your understanding of synthesis and programming which is an essential skill when it comes to this type of music.

Best wishes,
