....tried this way too. It doesn't work. I still end up with a 48K file.
Setting the default sample rate in 1.2.3 is File>Preferences>quality,btw.

You don't want to change both the sample rate and the speed -- it's one or other.

With a little help from someone over at the Audacity forum I was able to figure this out and finally export my files at 44.1k. Here's the thread that explains it:

It's the project sample rate selector at the bottom left that does it....not the drop-down on the top left. Thanks to all who offered help.
