I don't think you learn writing songs by reading books. You need to invest time and effort developing your songwriting skills.

If you're new to song writing, you need to start somewhere. Reading a book and applying what you've read is investing time and effort.

Seriously, I've spent a lot of time working in bookstores, and there are OODLES of books about knitting. So, Captain, you've insulted not one - but two - groups of artists there! :P

I own this book as well. Personally, I think it's a great book because it helps with the theory behind songwriting, including chord substitutions and such. But it's not much in the way of lyrics. Everything else though is great in it.
