H4 to my knowledge does not have it. (at least not on the unit I have). On the H2 I read it was 2 seconds.

How's the noisefloor one of those? If it performs reasonably well with a faint sound source, it's gonna be yet another thing (in a long line of things) that I don't really need, but I want like hell.

From what I've read it's about -78db, which is great I think.. but it also says they suffer from a slight pulse in battery mode, the SD card accessing, which you can just barely hear if it's set on lower quality settings.. something about the batteries not being able to supply enough power.. -which might be reduced with slower SD cards that have a lower voltage consumption? and ..anyways, I'm looking at this seriously.. they seem to be the best out of all the sub $1000 recorders.. the Edirol R-09 doesn't have nearly the same amount of features..or bang of the buck, some are saying it's a lot hissier ..I'd probably go for the H4 with those connectors on the bottom.. I'd trade that off for the 4 mic'd H2.. can't believe it's 24 bit 96kHz..for 300 quid, this time last year I was lusting after the Sony PCM-D1 ..but only a dream, I'd never shell over a grand, but for the features to price ratio the zoom H4 looks really tempting! -no f**k that.. irresistible!

I better start putting those pennies away till christmas

Good point, sync. It's competing with $5000 equipment...
I get the pulses, even after doing the mod that removed the beep.
I haven't tried making an external battery pack yet. But then again, the pulses are at -70 or so. Way faint. I didn't hear them before I saw them.

And yes, voidoid, you can record pretty damn quiet stuff. It's lovely. Magnificently useful.

Yeah it's cheap, there's nothing with all those features in that price range, so the issue is more of a 'does it really work'? It does, i got my H4 and got loads of weird samples from it, plus all other kind of recordings; just the ability of flipping it on and record straight away anywhere far outweighs any slight noise problem, all imho.

i have no idea, but i'm hoping the H2 has the "pulse" problem of the H4 sorted out...it's been pretty well documented, and it seems after the announcement of the H2 the release was delayed...

I've used the H2 to record a very quiet clock tick in a very quiet room, and it's about as audible as it was in real life. See http://www.2090.org/zoom/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=9745 for all the stuff the manual doesn't tell you. Like, don't use most of the features! 'Cos if you don't you can get some nice recordings for the size and price.

A perfect point. Record it natural... add the extra "features" later. Like the Mic modeling and extra FX etc. It can all be done in your host with Plugins, after the original (clean) recording. Then you can manipulate it a million ways, and still have the natural recording to tweak a million other ways.

the H4 can do 4 track recording, i think it also has some FX and such...i just want to record audio so i have no use...

i just got mine...popped some batts in and an SD, turned it on, pressed record, it was ready to go! gonna read the manual a bit and check out the functions...digging it so far...

Zoom H2: me likey!
