actually the concept is good, I agree it would be good for people playing live who use many tunings. Transperformance has made a self-tuning retrofit for many years. However, Gibson already is beyond logic in their absurd pricing and one could easily pick up 3, maybe 4 good used guitars for what this will cost and tune them all different (the transperformance is even worse at about 5k). No offense back to you, either, but if you read it, it's just the stores with celebrities showing it off or giving clinics in that article. Every Gibson dealer on earth will have ten of them in their store for the limited run. As for the absurd pricing, when is 2K absurd for a collectible Les Paul? You'd spend $800 on pro pickups alone for the four replacment guitars you mentioned, and that's only if you installed them yourself. That leaves $1200 to buy four guitars that you'd want to tour with, each which would take up space on a plane or bus (incurring costs like insurance, etc). The logic behind that crit fails, imo.
about the locations /celebrities....yes as to the cost, you proved it...2k for a collectable...I buy guitars to play, not collect and tbh the best Les Paul I played for my tastes is an Epiphone, the neck was better, there was no tone difference I heard. It was one my half brother bought for his son when he was young. At the time he still had is transperformance les paul plus one of the first jimmy page signature models. The funny thing is it was my half brother who pointed how good the epi was...it was he that noticed it had a similar slim taper neck, and it was he that forked out a lot for the jimmy page model. I'm sorry, but 2k is too much for a guitar in my book, I'm not rich...not even close.
