First I agree, Access has to provide 64bit drivers soon... :help:

But I really have some non music related stuff that has no 64bit drivers either...

Some freeware I like does also not run proper unter 64bit...

Concerning DPC it's not the average that counts but the max. values...

Some actions under vista create spikes > 2000ms. Never saw this on XP.

My new machine sometimes idles DPC below 10 us on XP... I had to look twice to belive it... and no dangerous spikes at all. Maybe you have better drivers for vista than I have.

Ok, average DPC in Vista usually also does not hit the magic 2ms... but I feel XP performs much better than vista.

I never see that on my system. Highest spike since I got the MR816 was just under 100µsec.

...that's rare and not a frequent event and caused by actions one would not usually do...

For fun, run DPC checker and observe it while closing Cantabile...

Ok, that's no scenario of practical interest but I'm curious what happens on your vista.

Or watch it while madly resizing a window very fast...

BTW, what type of machine are you running?

I don't know about Cantabile, but I don't see any change when closing Cubase or resizing Windows. This could have something to do with the Video card. I run a Radeon 4850HD 512MB since it was a reasonably priced card that could offload all the GUI processing when running Vista Aero. Another thing to keep in mind is that I run my system very clean. There is nothing running in the background that shouldn't be, only audio software is installed, and everything not needed is turned off.

Your System ist quite "high end"... the fastest core i7 availiable right now...

I just have "upgraded" from an old P4 to a Q8200 based machine with GT120 graphics, 4GB ram and 1TB HD.

For sure the machine IS fast enough, XP is evidence and giving exellent low DPC values.

I don't mind vista at all - except DPC is not really reliably spike free... depending on the machine you have...

You just happened to catch me on an upgrade cycle. I just upgraded from a 3-year-old Athlon 64 X2 4800+ machine.

LOL... my P4 is 7 years old, still ok for email and web but weak for anything else... :D

I was looking at the core i7 too but found it too early and too expensive to go for that now... but congrats, core i7 is a powerful machine... :tu:
