Bug with latest Virus Ti version

Hi

I just upgraded my Ti to version 1.75. It plays fine but I think Cantabile is not releasing the driver properly on exit as I can't play my Ti again without a reboot (of the Ti, not Windows) after closing Cantabile 2. I've compared this behaviour to several other apps inc Cantabile 1.2 and Kore 2 and it's just the beta that's doing this.

I guess there is a typo, the latest Virus TI OS is 2.7.5 do you mean that one?

Haven't done the upgrade yet myself - no time - so still on 2.7.3

I don't think the code to shutdown a plugin has changed in quite a while.

Does the same problem occur if you shutdown Cantabile vs unload the session or delete plugin?

I'll debug though the shutdown code tomorrow to make sure it's unloading everything correctly.

Post

Just a quick follow up on this, I spent some time stepping though all of Cantabile's plugin unloading code and it seems to be working correctly.

Is this problem still happening? Could it be a problem with the Virus update itself?

Post

I'll keep that in mind, so I nor have time yet to update my TI neither to check this out instantly... :(

I also have to note old style midi program changes work much faster than changing a complete virus setup via VST total integration... :-o

I think now it's a problem with the Ti update. I have also experienced it with Reaper but it doesn't seem to happen all the time which is why at first it seemed just to be Cantabile.

(Ironically the update has improved performance in Reaper quite a lot in other respects)

OK cool, thanks for letting me know...

Hi Folks...

...anyone already tried the latest Virus TI 3.0 public beta software?

I am still behind with updating and would prefer to go to the latest OS when I've the time to update...

I did but I went back to 2.7.5. It has a number of bugs - in particular a lot of people including myself have had problems with USB communication between the Ti and Control. I'll wait for the final I think (also I don't like the new look for the Control though I seem to be in a minority)

Post

Thanks, that's a valuable info and I guess I'll wait for OS 3.0.1 now... :D

Hi.

OS 3.0.1 public beta for the Virus TI series is out now... still didn't update this...

Did anybody already do this and can report if there are still issues or not?

[EDIT:] Does anybody have experience using the TI with a 64 bit OS?

Access has yet to release 64-bit drivers for the TIs. You can't use them with Virus Control or as an audio interface with 64-bit Windows and it's really pissing me off. My TI is sitting there collecting dust for the past couple months because I couldn't wait around for them anymore. Who buys/builds a machine with 32-bit Windows anymore?

Hi

I am struggeling here too... seems at this time we're sitting between 32 and 64 bit chairs... as there is more stuff that does not work under 64bit OSes...

Because of this dilemma I'm just trying to set up a multi boot installation with Vista64 and XP32.

The DPC issue Brad noted somewhere is basically non existent under XP. But with vista on the same machine you easily get DPC spikes sometimes that makes realtime audio unreliable.

The ideal thing for music could be XP64bit, but this is even more delicious and does also not resolve the lack of 64bit drivers for VirusTI...

I guess Access has to release anything for 64bit if they want to stay in business with TI... otherwise a Virus becomes simply too expensive imho...

I don't know about more stuff that doesn't work with 64-bit than stuff that does. All my gear works with 64-bit except the TI and my VG-99. Every audio interface I have looked at has 64-bit drivers now. Cubase has a pure 64-bit version although, there are not enough 64-bit plugins yet and that VST bridge is terrible. I run Cubase 32-bit under Vista 64-bit and so far it has been working like a champ.

Regarding the DPC spikes, I average a smooth 46 microseconds on my Vista 64 DAW, so I don't know that its a Vista issue. I would be quicker to blame driver programmers who have yet to optimize for Vista. They better get on the ball though, its not going away since Windows 7 is still based on Vista subsystems.

Either way, Access has to get 64-bit working very soon. Just about any off-the-shelf PC these days comes with Vista 64 by default.
