@koolkeys
Well, of course it's nothing for me and most other hobby-musicians (too expensive and well .. just overkill). But for me it's still the highlight of this NAMM.

Yeah, it is definitely a cool product. And they set up a soundproof booth just to show it. But considering how much is going on at one time inside of MIR, the system requirements make sense.Nokenoku wrote:@koolkeys

But it's definitely for working professionals who can afford to buy a new system to run the reverb. I guess we can still oogle at it though!

It really depends obviously on what you like...I'm really into instruments and amps so seeing really expensive guitars (moog) or new rigs from Peavey and Mesa Boogie was cool.
But there is tons of stuff...

I didn't spend much time there. I actually didn't see EXT, but I wasn't looking for it. I literally had the entire time packed and it was one booth I didn't get to. Sorry about that. I did mean to though!S.HUSH wrote:Koolkeys, did you happen to stop by the Behringer/EnergyXT booth?

Things about NAMM that were cool:
- Live 8/MAX for live/APC40 - cool stuff. Finally getting to meet Huston and Baptiste from Ableton. Nice guys.
- Maschine looks pretty cool, I like the body of the hardware, feels quite solid and integrates nicely with Traktor.
- Rim from Drumagog drumming on himself and triggering Drumagog with mics.
- Hanging out with Lee Du Caine from CM magazine and getting sucked into the Behringer press conference, where amongst other things, it was announced that EnergyXT is bundling with Behringer.
- Finally getting to play with a set of AudioCubes and meet the developers (badass)
- Meeting Yakov Vorobyev of Mixedinkey - total geek moment.
- Meeting Dr. Mike Metlay (finally).
- Getting to play with a Lemur at the Jazzmutant booth, and finding out I could actually afford one soon.
- Seeing Richard Devine and Jordan Rudess show down in Muse's invite only keyboard/glitch battle, and meeting them both afterward. (video forthcoming)
- Meeting and hanging out with a lot of cool people, many of whom I forgot I'm sure, so I apologize

My NAMM highlights were mostly the people I finally got to meet and hang with.
NI- Daniel Haver, Mate Galic and I met up after the press conference and discussed Maschine at length; what's cool and what needs to be improved and/or implemented. A lot of the US office people I'd never met in person, such as Jeff (the US office head) and Michelle (my favorite customer service rep). Josh Fielstra- we've been meaning to hook up for a long time, but never managed it until now. And, there's the ones who I run into maybe twice a year or so, such as Richard Devine. A couple of my fellow moderators such as David Das (who was demoing the new BigFish libraries)
Angus from Fxpansion giving Ben and I the grand tour of the new synths
Ben from Camel (see above)
Rob Papen. As I introduced myself to Rob, I heard an "ew?" behind me. Who could it be but Chad Beckwirth, formerly of Cakewalk and now the owner of Patch Arena
Dave Spiers. I watched him crash his Mac for the first time during the show
Seriously- a wonderful guy.
A bunch of the Cycling'74 guys who I only knew from the MAX Windows betas
Mr. Koolkeys himself- hey Brent!
And way too many others to list here.
But, my favorite moment was meeting Martijn Swartjes- the creator of Steampipe and SpaceMaster, as well as many other SyncModular and Reaktor goodies. He and I talked build your owns, while his girlfriend and I talked Midwest (she's originally from Michigan). He told me he actually's used my ensembles in some music he's done
My favorite hardware moment? Mesa/Boogie and the Mark V

Those cubes were interesting, but take some practice. I got to mess with them for a bit before I actually knew everything about what they could do, and couldn't get much out of them. But with the right parameters assigned, they could rock in a live setting.botkiller wrote:Things about NAMM that were cool:

Haha! Great guy. I actually "met" him for the first time at NAMM as well. He's kind of my "boss" in a way. Kind of.- Meeting Dr. Mike Metlay (finally).
I didn't get to see that, but I did see Jordan showing a couple of products like Omnisphere and Ivory Pianos. He got to show many of his excellent skills on Omnisphere, including his own patches that I hope will be part of the update.- Seeing Richard Devine and Jordan Rudess show down in Muse's invite only keyboard/glitch battle, and meeting them both afterward. (video forthcoming)
BAH!! If I would have known you were there, I would have hooked up with you and had a chat!- Meeting and hanging out with a lot of cool people, many of whom I forgot I'm sure, so I apologize

Shhhhhhh, that wasn't technically a "NAMM" moment. That's an "after party" moment!debra1rlo wrote:Gee, you didn't have anything negative to say about my pants while you were jamming ten dollar bills into them!koolkeys wrote:Skin tight gold shiny pants on a 50 year old, anyone?![]()

I was actually there for only three days, but I was SOOOOOO busy. I went by the booth, but didn't take much time there since I had so many meetings and other things to cover. One person just can't completely cover it all. But it sounds like I didn't miss much!S.HUSH wrote:You had all four days occupied where you couldn't stop by the XT booth for even a sec just to say hello???? No shrooms left. Hit me up on the 1st though, and maybe I'll make you some?

I think, as others have said, that the highlight really was meeting people. Not just all the press contacts that I usually talk to through email, but the people from here as well. Angus from FXpansion was probably the first person I met, and he knew who I was before I even saw his nametag!
Got to meet Per, EW, the entire Project Sam team, Ernest from Numerical Sound, and it just goes on and on.
I got to spend extended time with Per, Ben(Camel Audio), Rob Papen(love my new T-shirt!), Urs(watching him and Ben talk "techie" was fun, yet intimidating), and many others. Even got to go to dinner with Per and Ernest and Per's girlfriend and others the night before NAMM. It was a great week with lots going on. And it was 80 degrees EVERY SINGLE DAY!
I think more good times were with Steven Slate, the guys at Heavyocity, and I even got to meet Chris Lorde Algea. But really, I can't say what my favorite time was. It was just a big, fantastic time.
I wish I could have just stayed there.
