Albino 4?

Well, not too much room for improvement in Albino 3 anyway IMO ... The only thing a really had hoped for in a possible Albino 4 is an improvement in preset management. This problem has been known since long, and not only in Albino: If you do have a lot of folders and presets, you spend a lot of time scrolling around, as they're all shown in a single row ...
Even if no further development is planned ... would it be very difficult to change that (to having presets in several rows next to each other instead of just one, to get a better overview) ?
Regards, Volker

Its on our list, but I really cannot say if it would make it into the next update, as there is currently none planed.

Thanks for the comment. I know it's an old issue, but would certainly be appreciated by many users.Peter from LinPlug wrote:Its on our list, but I really cannot say if it would make it into the next update, as there is currently none planed.

...so Albino is a dead end now unless either Rob wants to develop it further or you both sort out whose going to take over the rights and customer base for it? That would be kind of a sad perspective as I could still see room for improvements for it, e.g. a tag-based preset browser (every synth should have a Kore-like browser); import of user waveforms into the digital oscillator; the morph-sliders of the digital oscillators as modulation destinations (computers are fast enough now); a possibility to route oscillators directly to the fx sections (OK, I could also use a new layer); I still find dedicated randomisation options and copy & paste for the single modules interesting - and so on...Peter from LinPlug wrote:Not at all. We're not going to go in competition to Rob and Albino, he's our partner and Albino - for now - just remains at version 3.K-Slash wrote:Does that mean that this new project is Albino 3 taken to the next level but with a different name ?

Oh, I don't think it's about strange ideas. It's probably rather about people who don't understand what is behind all those legal issues that might be involved when basically two companies join for a project under one roof. I can definitely understand that it might not be easy to figure out all those copyright and other issues and then contiue in one or another direction. Personally, I would love to see Albino entirely under the LinPlug roof, even though Rob Papen basically created it. It would make the situation much clearer and easier to understand for us customers, and we could have hope again to see a new Albino roadmap eventually.
I love Albino 3 - except for the preset handling - and I will definitely go on using it all the time. And I haven't explored all its functions yet - far from it! However, I'd also be excited to see further features in it as others wrote in this thread.
Hoping for the best!

Not wanting to put words into Peter's mouth, but I'd guess he was actually responding to loachm's assertion that Albino is a dead end simply because there might not be a version 4. My response would be the same.
Has Albino3 stopped working? Does it all of a sudden sound rubbish? Sure, we all like to see new versions coming along with new features, but the fact that this seems unlikely for Albino hardly makes it a 'dead end'

Yes but how much have we all invested in this application since V1.Initial purchase plus upgrade to v2 and V3. Me thinks that with modern day coding its easier to make a new plug than to keep updating feature and bug fixes. These days everyone wants the latest Largo, Synth Squad, Sub boom bass. Some Plug gurus are very prolific and others keep churning out the same old same old.
Why would any dev release another version after a 2-3 year hiatus. Contemporary music is disposable and so are some plugs. The sound designers are the winners with the add on banks.
If there is no update planned you cannot flog a dead horse.
I hope Peter gets over it and develops something new. It's like saying will we see RM6.
Cheers

...Peter, if you've read closely you'll see that I haven't stated a fact but asked a question - nothing more. And in my view a legitimate one since I recently saw a bundle ad here for the Rob Papen synths without Albino (which is understanderable since Albino isn't sold under the Rob Papen brand). Also since the release of Albino 3 Rob has released a Blue update, Predator, RG, Subboombass, the next one will his Reverb. The new Rob Papen site doesn't even feature a picture of Albino on its first page anymore. I'm not overreacting or panicing or something, but I'm a bit worried about Albino's future - that's why I was asking and I can understand that you may not be too fond of this question. But as far as I see it there won't be any major update at least until next year - that would be four years if I'm not mistaken. Of course, there are other synths that haven't been upgraded for four years and that's OK, but given the extraordinary copyright situation of Albino, i.e. a (probably) shared copyright, one starts to wonder - also given that Rob seems to push his own brand now. And of course, Albino hasn't stop working, but time hasn't also stopped progressing - what if one day it's not worth anymore to update Albino to the latest operation systems because you can't charge for your update work anymore as Albino doesn't get any new features? But I know that I might be looking way too far into the future. Anyway, I think it would be better to ask Rob since he seems to be one to give the go-ahead for a new version.
...however, on a personal note - since I know what your sentence would sound like at least in german - I'm not random people, I'm your customer!

Having recently purchased Albino 3 I have to say I'm mostly very happy with it.
The automatable parameters could do with an overhaul... I have been mapping this beastie to Kore2 and it's almost too large. The only way to be able to control all the Osc modes for all 4 oscillators is to map them out individually (ie: Osc 1 Analog /Osc 1 Digital) etc. The same with the filters and the same with the 8 envelopes. It's a bit of a beastie! There are also a couple of parameters which aren't mappable (like the free-run buttons in the Osc's and Vel in the filters).
I also noticed that if I select FM mode using a controller Kore2 crashes (but not when changing from the GUI).
I think that overall this is a lovely synth though and almost perfect. It could maybe do with a version update to add these parameters and also the browser issue but otherwise, does there need to be a V4? I'd rather LinPlug worked on an Octopus 2 and/or a new product (which it sounds like you are?!).

I'm sure, if peter wanna release Albino4, he will release it with or without Rob's help,...
Albino is born by Peter and Rob under the brand "LinPlug" so Linplug can release another version, if they want..

I dont mind, actually you may ask whatever you want. I just dont see a problem, but maybe thats because I'm in the know, and you are not. However, we cannot publish everything that we talk with Rob, or any other business partner or customer, simply because at first had its private or confidential. You may ask wahtever you want, however, may I wont answer a question, I think everybody should have this rightloachm wrote:...you may not be too fond of this question...
I'm happy that the majority of our customers seems to agree that a long time without updates is a sign for a reliable and timeless instrument, actually, I clearly see a relation between quality problems and frequent updates (see LinPlug RMV, but thats soemwhat normal in the first month or year after a release).
Btw, the Rob Papen Albino (thats what we talk about here, eh ?) is a "Rob Papen" branded product, no ? Just for the records
I understand some of your points, just, dont get panic and be aware that we support it (e.g. we just sit on native 64 bit version) ... relax, enjoy, its a nice synth with tons of amazing presets.
While we say "presets", who said the sound designers are the winners ? Wrong ! Bad paid, much work, we try to pay them fair and its hard to achieve this, as we not have not the sales of the big boys.
