For those interested, here's a little webinterface that lets one do tunings based on 12 note scales:
http://www.u-he.net/scripting/Arprestrictor.php
It was meant to be used so that one could eliminate out-of-scale tones from the arpeggiator, but it can also be used to create loads of other tunings.

I did a conversion of the scala archive a while ago. They can be found here:
http://www.box.net/shared/6flif1bsnb
I guess the archive has been updated, so some new tune files may be missing.
Cheers

I think I'll update the 1st post to show these and the tuning script Urs has done.
Maybe Urs can make a sticky thread with these 2 tun scale products, and put your conversion up on the banks pages website.
Thanks again.

You are welcome I am staying with the "well tempered scale", but I am sure many users would like to experiment with intonation. If I remember right, Wendy Carlos was one of the early musicians that experimented with intonation. With the great tool Urs made, people can make their own tunings. You can altso use the Scala tool to setup scales from scratch. Same link that Howard pointed to:MCnoone wrote:Thanks a lot Rep.replicator wrote:I did a conversion of the scala archive a while ago. Here is a link to one of Carlo's tunings:
http://www.microtonal-synthesis.com/sca ... gamma.html
Compare that to equal temperament. Five 5'ths and five 4'ths instead of three. Pretty wierd
Some of the tunings can sound a bit muddy. The reason for that can be, some of the tunings can have 53 degrees instead of 12 compared to equal temperament. So if your keyboard got 61 keys, then one octave are almost all the keys. However, one octave are not far away from equal temperament in cents. The scales are often pretty narrow.
I have a feeling that microtuning are good for ambient music. The intervals are smooth, sounds pure. And a octave can sound larger then equal temperament. Sometimes it is impossible to play with many octaves at once without a sequencer. Imagine 3 octaves, can be 159 keys Unless you are the Captain (Octopus pirateus) on the ghost ship in Pirates of the Caribbean use the sequencer.
Cheers

I've been trying this utility and it seems to me that it doubles the offset amount. Eg. If I enter 10 cents in the C box, it creates a file with an offset of 20 at the C notes, etc.
My bigger issue is getting Zebra 2.5 to recognise the tuning files. I can set the Tuning Table to "On" and then open the menu box of files, but clicking on files does not get them to register in the tuning file box. I'm using some tests I made with the utlity.
Is Zebra able to recognise the Wusik style .tun file ? I saw another post on this but it did not seem to resolve. I have a simple Excell sheet utility that will create that style of file and it works fine in Wusikstation.

A while ago I loaded that collection of Scala TUN files, and a lot (most?) of them didn't work. I also remember having problems with the Camel Audio ones...

Howard, I am looking at it. Do you have the .tun files from Camel Audio?

Thanks Howard! Hm, the .tun files looks similar they share the values from 0 to 127 midi notes. I discovered something peculiar about the base frequency in the archive. Will do some new tunings and compare with the other ones. Middle C "midi note 60", 261HZ is default as center of tuning in scala. Transposing should not be necessary, but some of the .tun files need it.Howard wrote:CA tun files:

Anyone else having trouble with the tune files? I am looking for a solution. PM's are welcome.
Best regards

Hmmm... I had a quick look at the one Howie sent and it didn't have the Exact Tuning/Anamark section. I thought I had added support for the general tuning, but maybe it was buggy. I'll have to check that back home...
