So where are the Melodyne DNA threads?

Fwiw, I don't quite get the appeal of DNA, at least for my workflow.
I use stacked recording in Cubase all the time, so I typically have several versions of a part to begin with. Nothing easier than exchanging a messed up bar for a good version, and with short crossfades the ringing out of chords in the fingerpicking example will not be compromised at all.
Any pitch correction I've had the dubious pleasure to try yet introduces ugly artifacts as soon as you're pitching more than a quartertone, depending on material.
Melodyne currently is no exception, it's not better than VariAudio, Autotune & Co. So I sold my plugin, VariAudio is good enough for me to do some subtle correcting.
With anything more drastic its "go back, Jack, do it again" here.
As soon as somebody comes out with an algorithm that reduces artifacts considerably I'll be the first in line to buy.
Imho DNA is the answer to a question nobody has asked, sonic quality is the real frontier.

I've been using it for a couple of weeks now - and my thoughts are double. On one hand you can get quite horrible results. It can mess up the sharpness of the part and suck away the transients. But that's the worst case. I can't say I found a recording that works as well as the in the videos - but in best cases I can get quite close. But after one year of waiting and when I finally have it - I realize that the wait was pointless. I'm only correcting monophonic vocal takes anyway - and for that the old plugin is perfect.

Where I'd be interested ... and I guess this is probably a long-shot ... is if I could improvise solo piano, record the audio, chuck it into DNA and convert it to MIDI, then edit that into a notation score. Is something like that possible at this point??

Yes.

Well I know it's a real product, someone commented in a thread or made a thread, saying it was taking to long to release and so it must just be hype/vaporware or even fake, and he was quite heated about it. I thought that was quite funny :hihi:

Cheers. Well worth a demo run of that, once there is a demo available

May be its a bit overhyped. Most people don't need DNA and many people are skeptical that all is working as expected. Cubase users have also Variaudio which is a good replacement for the non-polyphonic corrections.

I don't need it, I'm not interested for the demo and I will not buy it ;)

I noted the "Since you have registered after the set date, for you the update Melodyne editor 1.x is free" in my account. Before I take advantage of it, does this new Melodyne editor 1.x still include a plugin version.

I noticed I lose my old license when I upgrade but I only really want the plugin version.

the first minutes of the earlier posted mp3 sounded very nice, i wonder if it always sounds similar to that. definately a new kind of sinusoid vocoder effect. to see this as a correction tool only seems quite boring.

It will replace your plug-in license. You will still keep Melodyne Studio if you had it. But once you upgrade, you will be able to download a single installer that has Standalone, AU, VST2, VST3, and RTAS, all in a single installer. So basically, your plug-in license is replaced with all of those. You still keep Melodyne Studio, as mentioned before.

Cool, so my plugin license is replaced with a plugin license, plus a standalone version. Sounds worth upgrading then. I just didn't want to lose access to the plugin version. Thanks Brent.

No problem. You won't have access to the OLD plug-in version any more, but you will have the Editor plug-in version instead. So you should be good.
