... and maybe half of the Grid.

Not a zebra user but I'm just curious to see what is the "right" answer (it seems there is something behind the scenes if I read the first comment by Urs in the right way...)

Post

Please don't get rid of anything. Disregard my previous post.(I was kidding anyways) In fact, I want more stuff. Let's start with more LFOs! :wheee:
Oh, and don't anyone even think about ditching my XY pads... :nutter:

Well I don't have a physical XY controller, so they're not of much us to me.

I suspect it's a general comment on 'featuritis'.

I would definitely lose the ring mod. I have never used it in a patch, because it never did anything to the sound that I either liked or needed.

It's temper :hihi: ........ too bad it doesn't have one! 8)

No sir! It would be a bra! :hihi:

Post

Keep it all, don't lose anything please, maybe add some things like 2 more MSEGs or sample support and definitely keep the Cluster combs, awesome sound design material....

A funny looking one at that.

A pixel or two.

As for some of the replies?
XY pads? Nuts...they can be automated and set to a controller knob.
They can be used to find newer sounds that fit better in a mix, more quickly and easier than individual knob tweaking.
They are imo, one of the best features of the synth.
You can actually create something better, from moving them around sometimes.
Getting a better sound in less than a minute of moving 4 knobs around, is not useful?
Ring Mod?
You might have better luck trying the combination below on one channel slot.
Try an oscillator/ring/shape/filter setup, and experiment with this, until you get something. It's great for things with fast attacks, and can give great sharpness to the attack.
FM waves?
I got something I like through using them. (FM AM Poly) sound that works for me.
Sounds thicker than not using them for that preset. Used them a few times in different presets actually.
Smooth attacks? That can be turned off though, and I never had a popping come from it though. The popping, might be coming from some attack setting, or even peaking, or the most likely...XMF click setting.
The cluster mode would be better if it didn't cause extreme peaking so much.

Post

I'd hate to see it lose anything...a few things have been mentioned as potential omissions (like the compressor, which is great for adding a rather brutal snap to attacks in "smooth" mode) that I use quite routinely, and I'm sure there's somebody who would miss almost anything that was taken out.

Of course, this tongue-in-cheek topic is put forth by Howard, who is a master of economical synth programming and getting the most out of just a few modules. After all, Zebra makes a Virus C look almost simple and check out the diversity of sounds he managed to wring out of a C back in the day. :D

My responses were meant to be silly. I mean seriously, who would request that the patches page be removed. :hihi:

As of 2.5 the ranges of a few modules have been made a bit too "polite" for my liking (I mainly stick to the 2.3 mode for wild feedback and unruly resonance), the cluster mode of the comb however is almost constantly out of control (though it can be controlled) and that is what I love about it.
