I think once you have this, the FCB can help you from there. As I previously posted, FCB doesn't send MSB/LSBs, but will send PCs (and Receptor can interpret PCs without the MSB/LSB for a given bank). For each scene (preset) on the FCB, you can program it to send up to 5 PCs (on different Midi channels). So using the FCBs scene-up/down pedals, you can change presets on (up to) 5 Receptor channels.
Ahhh, I think we're getting somewhere. I'm so thick when it comes to midi. Thanks for your patience.

Ok first lets make things easier; every channels are midi channel 1 in my snapshot banks. When you're throwing that into the mix, it's really confusing me lol

All my scenes are arranged into patches in my snapshot banks. Keep in mind I have no question regarding receptor itself, I got that covered pretty much, and I'm already using those snapshot banks efficiently.

But the whole idea of snapshot banks is to switch quickly to the next patch (what you call scene) in order to change sound during a song.

What I don't want, is to have 10 switch where each single one is assign to a specific patch (or scene) cause that will be confusing, I can't affort to have to locate one quickly in the middle of a song.

I'd rather use only one switch (and always the same one) to move up in my scenes. This is the key issue here, only one switch (or 2) at the most assign to this task. I could keep pressing that switch when required until I reach the ends of my scenes (patches).

If one's using Receptor live, it seems to me this is the first thing one would want to address (unless it's a good controller that make uses of MSB/LSBs)...

From what you're telling me, this could be done, right? I don't see why it would be so difficult. My studiologic with it's shitty midi implementation can do it, it's just not convenient.

Hi again - thanks for your patience as well

Sorry if we're not using the same nomenclature for things in the Receptor.

Let me explain how the FCB can send PCs

An FCB Preset can send from 0 to 5 PCs on pre assigned Midi channels. It also can toggle up-down (FCB) presets via an UP and Down pedal. Actually you have 2 ways to change FCB presets: 1.) UP/DOWN pedals 2.) Direct Number entry.

For me, I simply have FCB Preset 1 send out MIDI PC 1 (on CH 16, my Receptor's Global Channel).

So for you - if you are already just sending incremental PCs from your Keyboard to the Receptor on one given MIDI channel, than this looks to be the same thing that I'm already doing.

It also looks like you could coordinate multiple PCs being sent to multiple Receptor Channels, if that is what you want to do.

So - I hope this answers things for you.

Best,
Kevin

Meo,
I thought i'd chime in b/c i'm no midi pro either but i do use Snapshots and i do use a FCB foot controller. You can't do the Program Up/Down thing you're looking for BUT you could with a Midi Mouse ( Google it.. ) Apparently it does this by storing the current PC in its memory and then incrementing it up or down when you step on it. I used it all the time with a Nord Electro, i've no doubt it would work with the Receptor.

By the way the FCB rocks!!! I use it to trigger samples and whole chords in Kontakt. As well turn on/off effects in Guitar Rig. And yes Hollow Sun is incredible, the best vintage synths IMO.

So timely - got the same rig at home - Receptor and VMK - gig with either pc1se or NOrd Electro 3/K2600R - been thinking of taking the studio rig down to a gig - would only need 16 multi's for the jazz stuff I do - tempted...

Do you use external power for your VMK or do you power off the Receptor USB port?

Sorry for the time delay.

I use (was using) the USB connection. Saved me from carrying around an extra power cord.

Yeah, I'm lazy.

After reflecting on this for a while, I decided to remove the controller from my setup. Went with the new Korg.

So my original issue is not such an issue anymore. I've traded for a set of brand new ones.

looneytunes:

Now I have to see how would the FCB 1010 fair with the Korg. So still looking at this, but from another angle now. Also picked up a beginner midi tutorial, I understand a bit more how it works.

This is why it took a little long to respond.

looneytunes and thumky, thanks for your inputs guys!

Hi there,
I use a MacBookPro with MainStage2
This application resolve all of your problems like change sounds in Snapshop, disable sustain pedal in any channel , layering , splits much quickly than receptors interface. etc

Good luck!

luiggyc,
I think you will find that people here are using their Receptors to AVOID using a computer on stage. ;)

Especially in environments where carrying a laptop around is not practicable, reliable or rugged.
My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Unify = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

The problem I have are not caused by the Receptor.

I went to Receptor to get rid of the computer.

Besides, going to a laptop would mean well....buying a dedicated new laptop, buying Logic, buying a sound card with 1/4 jacks with decent DA converter and low latency. More different system to integrate together means more to shovel around and connect.

I got it for gigging and life performance. I never had so much head room for my pluggins, combined with good DA converters, there's no going back for me. I have only one system to look after and with its front panel, it blends in nicely with the rest of my rack.

It's not about who's right, it just different strokes for different folks.

PS I do have a laptop though, but my wife uses it for her email and stuff.

It reminds me..I had Muse sending my a 1tb hard disk few months ago. The Kontakt sound sample developpers must love me!
