The initial question from the topic starter was if Sylenth1 was still supported.
I mailed Lennard with a support question this weekend and got a polite answer and solution to my problem monday morning. So yes, it is supported.

Lennard also made a post here a few weeks ago where he stated that Sylenth1 is in no way abandoned.

But the last "update" (just minor bugfixes) is 2 years old.

Lennard leaves the fans alone in the dark with such statements:

However, questions and speculations about future updates/products will be ignored, so don't bother asking.

So the fans will sooner or later move on to other synths.

Got a love these Sylenth is dead I moved on posts...you Woody, like others before you, will be back! I mean if Dune could match Sylenth in sound then everyone would be making soundsets for it, right? Because there would be money to be made. For a product like Sylenth that is supposedly not supported, there continue to be many new soundsets coming out almost weekly. I found one site that has over a hundred Sylenth soundsets available for sale.

You misunderstood my reasons for moving to Dune instead of Sylenth.

- Sylenth, is by no means a crap VSTi - quite the contrary, in fact.

- I don't have time to deal with a dev who's grumpy at best, let alone the fact that he seems to chasten anyone who gives him any reasonable pressure. Compare that with someone such as Urs from U-He...a king if there ever was one here!

- The reason why there are a hundred Sylenth soundsets is because of Sylenth's popularity, of which I can bet that 80% of those who own Sylenth own a cracked version, which might be the main reason why Lenny acts like he does. Ichiro Toda Synth1 is free and kicks ass, and the soundsets for that outnumber Sylenth's...do you see where I'm getting here?

This 'head in the sand' approach to legit Sylenth owners can't go on (Ableton please take note). You pay your money, you demand the best...

"New" soundsets with always the same sounds. I don't expect any (really) new patches for Sylenth in the future because everything has been done already. The synth is too limited.

Yes its limited, but can emulate about 90% of famous modern sounds, also have a unique ''transparent'' sound around imho ...

i have a ridiculous amount of soundsets for S1; i don't agree that 'everything has been done already'. like other plugins, S1 has a 'sound', and the challenge for sound designers is to challenge that.

i am always happy to buy new sets that do new things. the overall tone may be similar, but an inventive sound maker can find new ways of tweaking that sound.

Why do you have to deal with Lennard vs just making music with Sylenth? Is there a bug in your version of Sylenth that needs to be fixed?
I have Urs synths also and Urs is a very active, communicative and talented dev/businessman. But do I need to talk to Urs to make music with his synths? NO

Sylenth is popular, Devs make money selling Sylenth soundsets but 80% cracked? Total conjecture on your part

We don't know percentage of cracked copies, but I bet it's gonna be +- equal to percentage of warez'd soundsets. Fact, that it's all selling good is just sign of fact, that nobody will give a sh*t about that cracked copies promoted publicaly. Not even Lennard. That 2500 copies, if true, is still pretty nice sum of money, so he probably doesn't have one single reason to even write to that mother**ckers a bloody email.

Gotta say one more time...I read in an interview of Lennard that before/while/after Lennard was developing Sylenth he was a (most likely high paid) DSP guru for Phillips electronics. If that is true and taking into account his achievement with Sylenth, he shouldn't have to worry about cracks as he can work anywhere if he so chooses.

Yeah, true. But I ment fate of his own company. Nothing guarantees his new peoduct will be as sucessful as Sylenth. Whole history of people (incl. Steve Jobs) failing with second peoduct proves this. If he ignores his "fanbase", they'll be cautious about buying.

OK C-Note...I'll rephrase and point out some more factors.

- I do not own Sylenth...I tried it at a mate's studio. Impressive, but the complaints about Lenny's attitude to whoever communicated with him (whether they were polite or rude) put me off from buying the product. Moreover, everybody owns the damn thing...

- Conjecture it may be, but can you blame me when well-paid 'superstar' producers turn up on mags like Future Music wielding cracked software? On the other hand, I (like some people in this forum), have spent £4,000 on hardware and software since last October, paying it off with a 9-to-5 job.

- I went for an alternative supersaw synth - Dune. The sounds felt fatter and richer than Sylenth (my opinion, and not gospel). Now, I'm not one for supersaw synths (I'm a child of the 80's, and I hear synth sounds differently), but I figured that it would be good to have one on standby...mostly for pads and maybe for some basslines. Anything that smacks of Trance, Goa and Progressive House in the presets selection (probably around three-fifths of them) will be wiped out and replaced by initial patches which will be rebuilt into sounds of my liking.

- I repeat with impunity...Ichiro Toda Synth 1 is the best freeware synth out there. Most people don't see past it because of the GUI. Whether it's better than Sylenth is debatable, but I know people who have done whole tracks with it.

- I am not partial to software companies that leave you in the lurch. What's holding me from dropping Ableton is that I can't be arsed to change DAW's again.

This is where I get off, as I feel that I'm about to veer off the intended course of this thread. However, feel free to open up a new thread, and I'll be more than happy to keep on answering....
